SERVICES
'Steven Clarke Physiotherapy' provides private home-visiting physiotherapy to clients in Central and North London. Steven is a HPC Registered, Chartered Physiotherapist who qualified in 1999. Expert Private Domicillary Physiotherapy services are difficult to find.

MY PRIVATE PHYSIOTHERAPY INCLUDES TREATMENTS FOR:

Arthritis, joint pain and stiffness

Joint pain can lead to altered ways of moving and disuse, this can stress the joints more and lead to weakening the local and global joint supporting muscles, causing further joint stress and pain and so on until the joint becomes arthritic, and the process goes on eventually leading to elective orthopaedic joint replacement surgery. This process can be slowed and even prevented with specific physiotherapeutic strengthening and stretching exercises.

Preparing for elective surgery

If joint replacement surgery cannot be avoided then pre-operative physiotherapeutic stretching and strengthening exercises before surgery makes rehabilitation afterwards much easier.

Post elective surgery

The success of joint surgery is enhanced greatly with post operative physiotherapeutic exercises.

Acute back pain

This is often severely painful and debilitating - Physiotherapeutic exercise and pain management strategies will help settle the symptoms much quicker in the vast majority of cases. In a small minority of cases there will be some signs and symptoms associated with back pain which require immediate medical attention.

Whiplash or other causes of trauma to the neck, or low or middle spine will benefit from physiotherapeutic treatment.

Chronic and / or Recurring back pain

Often the cause of ongoing or episodic back pain can be controlled by physiotherapeutic exercise and pain management strategies.

Trauma and Orthopaedic conditions

Whether upper or lower limb bone or soft tissue injuries, healing is guided by movement. Normal movement (eg. not limping with leg injuries, or tensing shoulders with arm injuries) during healing ensures the optimum scar tissue formation and healing outcome.

Understanding pain and movement in relation to healing is imperative as restoring normal movement to joints after injury is often a painful process. It is important to know how much movement at different stages after healing is beneficial, as not enough movement will slow recovery, and too much movement will cause unnecessary pain and delay healing.

Loss of confidence in mobility

Periods of reduced activity, whether due to illness, pain or depression can lead to mobility problems, especially in the older individual. Physiotherapeutic balance, endurance and power exercises, both in the home and community will aid return to normal function.

Falls and fear of falling

Fear of falling causes the individual to be tense, which increases the likelihood of falling. Not all falls result in physical injury, but every fall has a psychological impact. Reduced confidence in ability to move around can be reversed with expert physiotherapy assessment of gait, balance and strength leading to the appropriate exercise programme. No other practitioners in the NHS or private medical sectors are as qualified to make this assessment which may include the prescription of a walking aid or changing of an existing walking aid.

Balance and dizziness problems

Dizziness can be caused by problems of the vestibular apparatus (within the middle ear) which can be diagnosed and treated by specialist exercises and mobilisation.

Sports injuries

Sports injuries are a subcategory of Musculo-skeletal conditions, and do not require sole 'Sports Therapist' attention. Specialist Chartered Musculo-skeletal Physiotherapists are the highest qualified individuals to treat Sports injuries, but it's best to find one with Specialist Sports Injury experience within high level sports areas.

Musculo-skeletal conditions

This basically covers pain, stiffness, or weakness originating from any tissues in the body involved in moving or controling movement (muscles, nerves, joints, tendons, ligaments, skin, fascia, connective tissue). From headaches to toe pain and everything in between. Some sinister pathologies (eg. cancer, TB, infection, cardiac problems) can present like Musculo-skeletal problems, so assessment from a highly qualified and experienced Physiotherapist is more likely to help identify such problems.

Personal Training

Specialist personal training for those with long term medical conditions, elderly or obese individuals. 'Personal Trainers' need to have taken specialist courses before assisting individuals with any of these conditions.

Pilates (Clinical)

Clinical or therapeutic Pilates is for those with or recovering from back pain or surgery. Regular Pilates for these individuals can cause more problems early on.

Massage

Sports, Therapeutic, Scar Release, Trigger Point, Muscle Energy Technique, Specific Soft Tissue Mobilisation, Connective Tissue, Myofascial Release and others.
