What is Complementary Therapy?

The basic principle of any Complementary Therapy should be “holistic” which means the whole person i.e. mind, body and spirit. Holistic healing is concerned with looking into the causes and prevention of illness rather than solely quelling symptoms.

A Complementary Therapist looks at the complete lifestyle of the person requiring help; diet and nutrition, amount of exercise taken, home environment, occupation or type of employment, relationships with family, leisure pursuits and very importantly attitude to life in general. All these added together make the whole person.

It is also about taking responsibility for our own health. So for lasting benefits, complementary therapies such as Aromatherapy and Reflexology should complement a healthy diet and lifestyle. Emotional disharmony can eventually manifest itself as physical illness. Aromatherapy and Reflexology can help to redress the balance by enabling a person to relax deeply, to let go of all their cares even for just a while!

What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy means “a therapy using essential oils derived from plants”. These natural plant oils are applied in a variety of ways including massage, aromatic baths, inhalations, hot and cold compresses and mixed in creams and lotions. Essential oils are absorbed into the body in one of two ways either through the pores of the skin into the bloodstream during massage, or through nasal cavities during inhalation.

Essential oils can relax the mind and the body. They can relieve pain, and restore body systems to a state of equilibrium in which healing can take place. In addition, one of the best things about using essential oils is that they are pleasurable as well as therapeutic, which is another way they can enhance our feelings of well-being.

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a specific pressure technique treatment which is usually applied to the feet but since the hands have the same reflex zones, it can be applied to the hands if necessary. The treatment affects all the internal structure and organs, which are mapped out in miniature on the soles of the feet, which correspond to each gland and structure in the body. The Reflexologist systematically applies this technique to many reflex points (from which the therapy takes its name) found on the foot to promote healing.

What is Indian Head Massage?

Indian Head Massage has been practised in India for over 1000 years. Traditionally the techniques were restricted to the head and hair, to improve scalp and hair condition of Indian women. Nowadays a system incorporating the upper back, shoulders, neck, upper arms and face.
Indian Head Massage is a safe, accessible, and convenient therapeutic treatment that can be performed either in the home, Spa or the workplace. Treatment can provide instant relief from tension and stress symptoms and induce a state of calm, peace and tranquillity and also promote high levels of alertness and concentration.
This simple yet effective therapy uses a variety of techniques to manipulate soft tissue. It is performed with the client in a seated position, however if you prefer to lie down. This can be arranged.
The therapist uses a range of different massage pressures and rhythms to stimulate the head, neck, and upper back and shoulder area.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

What is Swedish Massage?

Swedish massage therapy is the modality that comes to mind when most people think about massage. As the best-known type of bodywork performed today, one of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. But Swedish massage therapy goes beyond relaxation. Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.
