What is Yoga?

Yoga is an ancient and powerful discipline which, regardless of age, health or lifestyle, can have lasting benefits on all aspects of our lives when practiced sincerely. It is a complete system for physical, mental and spiritual well-being, which as well as the physical postures widely practiced today, also includes a healthy diet, pre-meditation breathing and relaxation techniques. The most advanced forms of meditation and self-realisation are also a part of yoga.

Yoga Seeds classes focus on the practice of physical asanas (postures) and Pranayama (breathing exercises). They bring about a sense of inner and outer balance in the body, mental clarity and aid relaxation. We pay particular attention to correct alignment of the body, and precision in the postures which will help you to build strength, stamina and improve your flexibility and balance.

Over time you will find your personal experience of yoga or “your practice” will evolve and although the postures themselves do not change, your relationship to them will. In this way, yoga is ever fresh and continually challenging.

Whether you are new to yoga, or have been practicing for some time, you are welcome to join one of our classes.

Private tuition is also available on a one-to-one or small group basis.

Yoga for Pregnancy

Yoga is the ideal exercise for pregnant woman. It is widely recommended by midwives and doctors to expectant mothers as a way of keeping fit and mobile.
Benefits of yoga during pregnancy:

  • keeps the body supple without straining
  • boosts energy
  • relieves stress and anxiety
  • relaxes and promotes restful sleep
  • can be used to relieve pain in labour and childbirth
  • can relieve common minor ailments during pregnancy (e.g. swollen joints, heartburn, constipation)
  • can help the expectant mother to bond with the unborn baby through breathing and visualisation techniques

Our classes offer a system for learning and using yoga throughout pregnancy, labour, birth and beyond. You will learn simple but effective breath and relaxation techniques, yoga postures to manage common physical ailments, and visualisation practices to build confidence and assist in easeful birth.

Yoga Therapy

Yoga therapy is the adaptation of yoga practices for people with health issues.

It can help in the alleviation of many different ailments, including back pain, hypertension, heart conditions, asthma, diabetes, IBS, cancer, MS, ME, migraine, RSI and stress.

Yoga therapy uses physical postures, breathing practices, relaxation techniques and meditation to help restore body/mind balance and promote natural healing.

Once you have learned the practices appropriate to your condition you will be able to use them to care for your own health. Contrary to popular myth, you do not have to be fit or flexible to benefit from yoga or yoga therapy.

Yoga Seedlings

Designed for young children aged between 3 and 5, our Seedlings classes are fun, creative classes designed to stimulate children’s powers of imagination, maintain their natural flexibility and teach them to breathe correctly.

The classes combine exciting adventures with songs, stories and relaxation techniques, as well as fun yoga games.

The wonderful combination of stretches, back arches, twists and balances support and strengthen children, not only physically but also mentally but building confidence and helping them to sleep better.

We run classes on a half-termly basis, which is usually 6-8 weeks per course.
