COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES: supporting conventional medicine

Whether you view complementary therapy as a treat or a vital path to recovering or maintaining your health and wellbeing, I am here to help you. I am a fully trained complementary therapist, working from my treatment room in Bedfordshire and qualified in a range of disciplines:
  • Reflexology
  • Aromatherapy
  • Hot stone massage
  • Reiki
  • Foot health
  • Deep tissue massage
  • Acupuncture

Treatments are offered either individually or as a tailor-made package to meet your specific needs. A single treatment takes around 40 minutes but packages can last up to three hours, depending on the combination of therapies required.

The treatment rooms are located within the lovely bright and tranquil East Wing Basement, The Keep, Bedford Road, Kempston with free convenient parking on site (Entrance to car park via Walcourt Road), adjacent to Rachel Benton & Associates East Wing Fitness Studio
Visit www.rachelbenton.co.uk. for more information about the services and classes on offer.

Home visits in and around Bedford are available on request but I find that the majority of my clients view their visit to me as part of their treatment.

Complementary therapies, including reflexology and aromatherapy, are priced realistically so that as many people as possible in and around Bedford can experience the benefits of the treatments I have to offer. Coupled with flexible treatment times, including evenings and Saturdays, I believe this has been my key to building a happy and healthy client base.

Recently working in association with Harley Street based Acupuncture Practitioner, Gun Chul Hwang, we are delighted to be able to offer Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture as a treatment option or in combination with massage to both new and existing clients. Book your FREE consultation.

REIKI: stimulating the body’s natural healing ability

A Japanese technique for relaxation and stress reduction, Reiki also promotes healing. Reiki is administered by therapists who lay their hands on their clients to connect with an unseen "life force energy" that flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If your "life force energy" is low, then you are more likely to become ill or feel stress.

Reiki therapists treat the whole person including:
  • the physical body
  • emotions
  • the mind
  • the spirit

REFLEXOLOGY: encouraging balance through the stimulation of nerve pathways

A complementary therapy which works on the feet to help heal the whole person, not just the prevailing symptoms. Used to help restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium, reflexology is suitable for all ages.

This gentle therapy encourages the body to work naturally to restore its own health balance and is recognised as being effective for a wide range of symptoms including:
  • Back pain
  • Migraine
  • Fertility
  • Arthritis
  • Sleep disorders
  • Sports injuries
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Stress related conditions
  • Digestive disorders

AROMATHERAPY: restoring health and wellbeing using essential oils

Essential oils are the basic tools of aromatherapy and professional aromatherapists use massage as an effective way of getting the oils into the body. The oils, which are extracted from plants, can be used to treat a variety of symptoms occurring in:
  • all systems of the body
  • disturbances of the mind
  • imbalances of the emotions

Massage also increases the healing potential of the medicinal properties of the oils and combines with the nurturing power of touch to form a potent healing treatment. Oils are individually mixed in specific combinations at the start of each treatment.

Both relaxing and energising, massage can soothe the nervous system or boost the blood and lymphatic systems to improve physical and mental functioning. It can also ease pain and tension from overworked or strained muscles and lift the spirits.

HOT STONE MASSAGE: using heat to enhance the effects of massage

Massage is a recognised and widely used technique to encourage relaxation and treat tired and stressed muscles. With the added benefit of hot stones the massage therapist can work the muscles more deeply without added pressure or discomfort to their client.

Hot stone massage is popular with people who suffer during cold weather, particularly those whose hands and feet are badly affected by poor circulation. It is also suitable for people who have muscle tension, working by relaxing the muscles and allowing the therapist to massage them without using deep pressure. Used for a variety of health conditions, hot stone massage is particularly helpful for:
  • Back pain and neck pain
  • Poor circulation
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Stress, anxiety and tension
  • Insomnia
  • Depression

Hot stones also help to improve circulation, calm the nervous system and rebalance the body and mind by placing the stones on points that are thought to be energy centres of the body.

FOOT HEALTH: helping you to walk tall

You don’t have to be elderly to need help with your foot health; many younger people suffer from foot problems and look for advice and assistance. There are a surprising number of medical conditions that can affect your feet including:
  • blisters
  • corns
  • infections such as athlete's foot
  • bunions
  • heel or arch pain
  • cracked skin
  • in-growing toenails

Traditionally foot health care has been provided by practitioners working within the NHS and many elderly people received regular visits in their own home. With the squeeze on NHS budgets it is now extremely difficult to obtain home visits and even where people are able to travel to their local health centre, appointments are keenly sought after and spaces rarely available.

ACUPUNCTURE is now also available here at the East Basement at The Keep.

Bringing Harley Street to Bedfordshire - Gun Chul Hwang our Acupuncture Practitioner is now available for appointments here in Kempston on selected days only.

Gun Chul Hwang, Acupuncture Practitioner has a BSc (Hons) degree in Acupuncture and is a Member of the British Acupuncture Council. (visit www.totalacupuncture.co.uk for more information).

Specialising in combinations of traditional and modern techniques to help speed up the body's healing process and relieve muscle tension.

Depending on the diagnosis made during the initial FREE Consultation, we will help you formulate your acupuncture experience based on your lifestyle and needs.

Acupuncture's holistic qualities make it suitable for many conditions including:
  • Musculoskeletal
  • Neurological (e.g. MS & MND)
  • Stroke recovery
  • Skin
  • Facial rejuvenation
  • Menstrual & menopause
  • Impotence & infertility
  • Asthma & hayfever
  • Headaches
  • Digestive disturbances
  • General detoxification
  • Addiction (e.g. smoking, alcohol & drugs)

It may also be effective in the treatment of psychologically-related conditions like stress, chronic fatigue and insomnia, and for improving overall well-being.
