My name is Karen Roberts MFHT, MAcS, Lic.Ac and I have been a practicing therapist for 17 years. My aim is to provide you with a professional treatment which is tailored to your specific needs.

I am a fully qualified and insured therapist and I am a Member of both The Federation of Holistic therapists and The Acupuncture Society.

I offer a wide range of services with the focus being on providing an approach to health and well-being that encourages changes on a physical and physiological level, including emotional and mental.

Acupuncture

This treatment works directly with the body's energy (also known as qi) to release the natural flow of energy that has become 'stuck'. This can result in an increased susceptibility to illness and pain throughout the body.

Acupuncture aims to rebalance this qi and remove the energy obstructions through the treatment of specific acupuncture points related to the symptoms or illness present.

Acupuncture can benefit a wide variety of disorders. it can aid control of pain, respiratory disorders such as sinusitis, common cold, bronchitis and asthma, neurological disorders, stress, fertility, menopause, painful periods, stress, anxiety. All can be effectively treated with acupuncture

Spinal Acupuncture

Spinal Acupuncture uses needling to stimulate the nerves of the central nervous system in a similar way to western Osteopathy to treat the whole body, rather than using the meridians to bring about changes.

The needles are NOT inserted into the spine but into the soft tissue of the immediate area surrounding it.

This produces a strengthening effect on the nerves, increasing muscle tone, promotes blood circulation, eases pain and warms the extremities.

Orthopaedic Acupuncture

This treatment will focus on muscular-skeletal disorders. A combination of acupuncture, infra-red , cupping and mechanical massage may be used to bring pain relief and ease tension.

Remedial/Deep Tissue Massage

There are many reasons why we suffer muscular aches and pains: they can be caused by a traumatic incident, or build up over time, they can be the result of postural problems, or even be pathological or psychological in origin. Whatever the reason, many people suffer daily with pain and discomfort from some sort of soft tissue dysfunction.

Physically, massage aids the elimination of toxic waste from the body, which is often the cause of muscular aches and pains. It stimulates the blood and helps with lymphatic drainage. This increases oxygen to the painful areas and at the same time removes stagnant and toxic wastes, such as lactic and carbonic acids, which build up in the muscle fibres.

Bamboo Massage

Bamboo massage incorporates the use of bamboo sticks of varying lengths and thickness into the treatment to aid deep tissue work. The sticks are heated and essential oils are incorporated into the massage. The sticks are rolled over the tissue or used on specific points to release tension.

This massage induces a deep sense of well-being and relaxation, whilst the heated sticks work deeply to bring about changes in the soft tissue. It eases pain, promotes circulation, and increases lymphatic drainage.

Aromatherapy Massage

Essential oils are derived from various parts of plants, fruits, flowers, bark, roots, or resin. They contain dozens of powerful natural chemicals that have many beneficial properties. These oils are breathed in and are also absorbed into the body through the skin.

Aromatherapy Massage uses these essential oils to bring about changes in the body. It helps to relieve stress and related conditions and stimulates our own natural immune system. All systems of the body can be helped, it can alleviate respiratory, digestive, circulatory or hormonal problems as well as the relaxing the muscular-skeletal system.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a none-invasive pressure therapy primarily involving the feet. It revolves around the understanding that there are reflex points on the feet (hands and ears) that relate to the structure and function of all parts of the body. So, simply by 'pressing' a particular area of the foot it is possible to affect the corresponding area of the body.

By applying pressure to these reflexes using a gentle on-off pressure it is possible to influence the state of the body in many ways. For example, reflexology has been found to reduce stress and tension, reduce inflammation, relieve back pain and headaches, improve bodily functions, aid digestive dysfunctions including IBS, respiratory problems are eased, including asthma, help regulate sleep disruptive patterns and generally restore the body to a better state, so improving physical well being.

Electrolysis Treatments

Hair Removal

This method of permanent hair removal uses electrolysis, a very fine needle is inserted into the hair follicle and a tiny current is applied which destroys the base of the hair, and the hair is then removed. While the current is being applied, a brief stinging sensation may be felt as some area's are more sensitive than others. The current must be strong enough to be effective, while remaining tolerable for the individual client. This method of hair removal is ideally suited to small areas where hair growth is not wanted. lips, chin, side of face, bikini area under arms. Several sessions may be required to completely clear an area, whilst areas with only a couple of hairs i.e. the chin, can be effectively treated in one or two sessions. (this depends on the stage of the hair growth)

Thread Vein Removal and Spider Naevi (from face, neck, upper body)

Thread veins are usually caused when the tiny blood capillaries in the deeper layers of the skin expand, allowing them to be seen on the surface. During this treatment a minute current is applied to the surface of the skin by tapping a very fine needle along the affected area. in this way the blood capillary cauterized, (destroyed by heat.) and disappears. The blood being reabsorbed by the body. A medicated lotion is then applied to the skin to cool it and to aid the healing process. Tiny scabs appear two or three days after treatment (this is normal) They should not be picked of but allowed to fall off naturally. This can take up to 3 weeks (depending skin healing abilities of the individual)

Blood Spots

These can be treated anywhere they appear on the b

ody. The needle is inserted into the blood spot for a couple of seconds to cauterise and disperse. They are bright red blood filled blemishes which lie just under the surface of the skin. They are dome shaped or slightly raised and are most common on the trunk or torso and particularly the midriff back or front. Most people aged over 30 have at least one and they are even more common in men than women.

Skin Tags

Skin tags are very common are can be very unsightly. They are most frequently found on the neck and face are usually brown in colour, and can vary in size from a tiny speck, to the size of a large pea or even larger. As they are often found in areas of friction such as the underarm, under the breasts or around the neck they can cause irritation and discomfort if snagged.

Milia

These are tiny white hard lumps which lie just under the skins surface and can be easily treated with electrolysis.
