WHAT WE TEACH

Hine Tai Chi Schools were founded in 1989, when John Hine began to pass on not only his knowledge of Tai Chi, but also his experience in Chi Kung and mental development.

Hine Tai Chi Schools teach the Traditional Yang Style, to both beginners and more advanced students. We also offer training in the higher advanced levels of the Tai Chi Form including the Old Style.

Whatever stage of Tai Chi you are practicing, we follow a traditional training regime and syllabus to ensure that each student is given the opportunity to achieve the best possible results. In addition, your energy and focus will bring out the best in your training - we believe that regular practice leads to a calm mind and a strong energised body.

At our school, we teach the complete traditional system, which includes:

  • Traditional Yang Tai Chi Solo Form
  • Chi Kung
  • Pushing Hands
  • Weapons
  • Self Defence Applications (Combat)

Traditional Yang Tai Chi Solo Form

The Traditional Yang Style focuses on smooth, precise movements within a rhythmic sequence – this exercises and relaxes both the body and the mind. .

Chi Kung

Chi Kung exercises teach you how to develop and circulate ‘Chi’, the vital energy flowing within the body. This training can also be beneficial to those wishing to develop striking power within their martial arts abilities.

Pushing Hands

This involves students following a series of hand pushing exercises against a partner, ensuring they are in constant contact with their partner’s arm or hand. By developing this sense of touch, pushing hands helps to develop a sense of internal awareness which can be transferred to real-life interactions and responses.

Weapons

The four Tai Chi weapons consist of the double-edged sword (Gim), broadsword (Doh), spear (Jianng) and staff (Kwan). Students will learn the correct techniques in order to handle these weapons and consequently channel and strengthen their Chi.

Self Defence Applications (Combat)

Unlike most approaches to self-defence, Tai Chi advocates using an opponent's force, rather than opposing it. The Tai Chi self-defence strategy teaches how to both parry, avoid, and neutralise attacks, whilst preparing to return attack if necessary.
