Pilates & Sports Massage Chelmsford

Pilates
"In 10 sessions you'll feel the difference, in 20 you'll see the difference, and in 30 you'll have a new body." Joseph Pilates.

As a Sports Massage Therapist, I am passionate about the benefits of Pilates.

Some of the benefits are listed below:

Pilates works your body's deep postural muscles bringing your joints onto alignment and improving your posture.

Pilates increases mobility and flexibility in the joints and may aid recovery from hip or knee operations.

Pilates strengthens and tones the muscles giving you a leaner body.

Pilates helps improve the strength of our bones which is so important as we age.

Pilates improves balance and co-ordination reducing risk of falls.

Pilates encourages more efficient breathing and management or respiratory conditions.

Pilates can be fun and challenging to both our mind and body.

My classes are small, friendly and informal. I strive to give you individual attention and allow you to work at your own pace whilst encouraging you to challenge yourself in a safe environment.

Sports Massage

A Sound Investment In Your Overall Health

Individualised to your unique musculoskeletal needs, this therapy is highly beneficial both on its own and as a complementary role to other therapies.

As well as aiding healing, easing pain and increasing mobility to injured and overused soft tissue, regular massage also helps prevent further injury, lower stress levels, enhance energy, improve posture, promote sound sleep and generally improve well being.

  • What To Expect

When visiting for the first time, you will be asked to fill in a medical history form to check for any contra-indications. Any concerns you have will be discussed including relevant hobbies and occupation. Then we will talk about your condition, where you feel the pain, how it occurred and how long you have had it. I will then visually observe the area causing you concern, comparing it to other areas of your body. Range of movement and comparisons of strength will also be checked. This will enable me to formulate your individualised treatment plan using the appropriate massage techniques.

In most cases I will ask you to undress to your underwear, ladies will be asked to remove their bra for shoulder and back treatments. You will lie on a comfortable, padded couch and will be covered with towels. I may need you to change position several times during treatment. Only the area that I am working on need be exposed. Oil or lotion is used as a lubricant but so as I may reach the deeper soft tissue, not too much is needed. Depending on your condition, I will use various techniques to release tension and tightness in the muscles and break down painful adhesions. Some techniques may be a little uncomfortable but most people describe it as a welcoming pain'. Throughout I will work within your pain threshold. Of course, your massage will be interspersed with pleasant and relaxing strokes.

I am happy to give you an idea of how much time I will need to spend on the massage during the consultation. However, to include a full consultation and advice on exercises to strengthen and rehabilitate your problem area, I like to allow 90 minutes for the first treatment. Subsequent visits can range from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on you schedule. It is not uncommon to feel a little sore immediately after treatment but you should feel increased mobility around your problem area and also a sense of well being. Sleep should be particularly pleasant after a massage. I always advise you to drink plenty of water, refrain from alcohol for the rest of the day and not to eat too heavy a meal. A warm shower or bath is also recommended. For best results you may need more than one treatment.
