Welcome!

Shiatsu is a complementary bodywork therapy which originated in Japan. It is based on the principle that health and well-being are the result of smooth energy flow throughout the body. In Shiatsu we apply sustained finger, palm, elbow and knee pressure to release and restore the flow of energy through the body. Gentle stretches and rotations may also be used.
  • Amongst the benefits of Shiatsu are that it:
  • Deeply relaxes mind and body
  • Restores and balances energy levels, promoting and enhancing well-being
  • Eases tension and stiffness
  • Relieves aches and pains from new or old injuries
  • Reduces stress and anxiety levels
  • Provides support during emotional and life changes (e.g bereavement, separation or divorce, illness diagnosis, career changes, etc)
  • Alleviate symptoms of an illness or condition(e.g nausea, vomiting, menstrual problems, fatigue, etc.)

About Shiatsu

What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is an holistic touch therapy originating in Japan and is based on the same principles as acupuncture but using hands instead of needles. It aims to balance the body's energy system by the use of gentle pressure on pathways or meridians and relevant acupuncture points. Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing experience.

How does Shiatsu work?

Shiatsu is based on the principle that health and well-being are the result of smooth energy flow throughout the body. For many reasons, energy can stop flowing freely and this may produce physical symptoms of illness, as well as emotional, psychological or spiritual disharmony. Shiatsu, with the help of finger, palm, elbow and knee pressure, as well as different rotations and stretching techniques will encourage the free flow of energy throughout the system.

Shiatsu concentrates on the person as a whole, their interaction with the environment and the connections between body, mind, spirit and emotion.

Deeply relaxing for some, energizing for others. Shiatsu can be experienced in different ways.

Each session is unique and tailored to your needs

How can Shiatsu help you?

Shiatsu may help you in a wide range of conditions, from specific injuries to more general symptoms, and it is excellent for maintaining well-being. It is a deeply relaxing experience which works at the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. Regular sessions will help you to prevent the build up of stress in your daily life.

What responds well to Shiatsu?
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Stress, anxiety, depression
  • Insomnia
  • Fatigue
  • Eating disorders
  • Digestive disorders (e.g IBS, heartburn, nausea)
  • Pregnancy

  • Support during recovery following surgery, illness or courses of strong medication (e.g chemotherapy, infertility treatment)
The Shiatsu session

About Patricia

I am Spanish and I am a Vet. Tragedy and devastation during the Foot and Mouth outbreak brought me to England in 2001. My beautiful profession, although hard, difficult and challenging at times, brings me loads of joy in my life. I am an animal lover and people lover, finding my family and friends being everything to me. Being in nature, the sun, blue skies, the smell of the sea, Spanish and Italian food ..... make my heart sing. Shiatsu, QiGong, meditation and the great outdoors nourish, balance and support me through this 'journey of life'.

I am registered with the Shiatsu Society and abide by their code of conduct and ethics.

How I met shiatsu and why I love it

I first found shiatsu on my 26th birthday when I was going through the most difficult and painful time of my entire life. My mother was terminally ill with cancer and some friends bought me a shiatsu treatment as a present. I had no idea what to expect during my treatment but I found myself relaxing to a level that I would have never imagined I could under the circumstances. After she passed away I felt loss and decided to come to England. My coping mechanism was to hide in my profession, and becoming the best Vet I could possibly be was my mission in life.
Many more losses followed my mums and I just hid away, not knowing how to deal with so much grief and feelings of anger and resentment to this unkind life.....
In 2011 I suddenly decided to join the Bristol School of Shiatsu, were I am currently doing my third and final year of training, and that decision changed my entire life. Shiatsu helped me to get a hold of my life, feelings and emotions to make the necessary changes to be kinder to myself, love myself and grow. Shiatsu has helped me to finally move forward with the grieving process and let go. It also supported me during illness and recovery from surgery as well as with back pain and coping with daily stress of a busy and demanding life.

Now I believe that the balance between body, mind and soul is the path towards healthier and happier lives.

I completely believe in the beauty and power of Shiatsu to support us through life and I feel privileged to be offering Shiatsu from my studio in Wirksworth. I am also thrilled of having the opportunity to support cancer patients and their carers, families and friends with Shiatsu as a volunteer at the Nenna Kind Cancer Support Centre.
