Shiatsu is so much more than finger pressure

Shiatsu is a Japanese word; it simply means ‘finger pressure’, but a shiatsu treatment is so much more!

Shiatsu is a fully-clothed traditional Japanese therapy that is tailor-made for you on the day The aim is to produce an overall amazing sense of wellbeing, with a meditative-like relaxation to promote good -health and Well Being. Shiatsu simply means ‘finger pressure’, the treatment though can, not only incorporate the use of finger pressure, but also palms, knees, forearms, elbows and feet. Pressure is applied to the areas of the body, comfortable to the touch, with an emphasis on your body’s natural energies (according to Traditional Chinese Medicine). Shiatsu is a holistic treatment, you the receiver will be treated as a whole, whilst taking into consideration why you have visited. It is excellent for promoting a deep relaxation, can enhance your mood, relieve tension and aid sleep; which in turn can restore good health. Whatever the treatment is that you receive, it is fully clothed, and done with the utmost care of your comfort and consideration for your situation .A Shiatsu is designed for your needs and on that day - no two treatments will ever be the same, but they will be what you need at that time... a truly ‘in the moment’ experience...

Postural Realignment balance your body

Think of your body as 3 triangles balancing on top of one another, when one is unbalanced, the other 2 have to counter balance for the structure to remain upgright - now replace with pelvis, shoulders and head. When one goes out, the rest are affected, and the pulley mechanism that holds your body together gets misaligned; this is your muscle system. The consequences of walking around like this can be felt throughout, and is something that can be addressed and rebalanced. As part of my overall treatment I will take this into consideration if necessary, so you can leave a shiatsu feel well-balanced in body and mind, and it's an invigorating way in which to get the week started, so if you don't want to be tired by friday, book a treatment on a Monday.

Benefits of a healthy body and mind

Shiatsu can help alleviate the pain associated with a wide range of conditions. It can also assist an individual with their self development and self healing; balancing the underlying causes of a condition; taking into account the functioning of the physical and psychological; promoting health and strengthening the body’s own healing abilities. Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing experience and regular sessions help to prevent the build-up of stress in our daily lives. Following a treatment, the individual may have feelings of increased vitality and relaxation. Some of the immediate physical benefits of Shiatsu are to stimulation of the circulatory, lymphatic and hormonal systems, and to regulation the activity of the autonomic nervous system. Sounds stuffy? Let's just say you'll experience more energy in the following days, and you'll never quite know where it came from... well it came from Shiatsu, so why not try and see for youself!

About your Practitioner

Andrea Marsh

After many years of receiving Cranial Osteopathy, and feeling the difference between receiving many types of massage I wanted to investigate why some left you feeling so much better than others. I looked into 'therapeutic massage' and came to Shiatsu, a physical therapy based on the body's own energy... enabling us to help ourselves, and to maintain body and mind health. It is very must a proactive therapy. I studied for 3 years at The Shiatsu college , in London till graduation, and worked at the Eastern Garden clinic in West London to gain experience. Since then I have found I am interested in combining the more esoteric eastern treatment with western terminology and understanding how one can aid the other, this led me towards studying postural realignment to support my shiatsu work, which is very beneficial to the receiver.

I spent most of 2010 learning about pelvic alignment and spinal health from both and osteo and musculoskeletal approach with Dan Stretton and Alexander Barrie, both have many years experience and bring in the disciplines of Physiotheraphy, Cranial sacral, Sports massage and Acupuncture to expand their understanding of how to treat a person from a holistic approach.

I am Graduate Member of the Shiatsu Society , with over 5 years experience, and look forward to discussing how Shiatsu can help you.
