What is Acupuncture ?

Acupuncture is an ancient practice used to promote health at the physical, mental and emotional levels by tapping in to the body’s energy system, clearing any blockages, and promoting the flow of the energy (Qi) along the channels (a series of pathways that run throughout the body). The flow of energy can be blocked by many factors, such as stress, overwork, emotional problems, poor nutrition and other lifestyle habits, physical accidents and traumas. By inserting extremely fine needles into specific points on the channels the flow of energy can be restored, bringing the body back to a healthy state of balance.

I practise a combination of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and Five Elements Acupuncture.

TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) looks at the current state of health and identifies seemingly diverse symptoms into groups or patterns of imbalances. This allows for a diagnosis based on the patterns of disharmony resulting from these imbalances.

The Five Elements approach looks at the constitutional imbalance that each of us usually has a pre-disposition towards in one of the five elements, Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. These elements correlate with bodily functions, organs, emotional tendencies, and common health imbalances.

What can Acupuncture do for you ?
Have you a persistent or recurring problem that has not been resolved by visits to the doctor? The approach using Chinese Medicine is quite different to that of western medicine, and it is often possible to successfully treat problems for which there are no western medical solutions. Perhaps you have back ache resulting from an old injury, or regular headaches and would like to cut down on painkillers. Come and try Acupuncture, you may be surprised by the results. With Acupuncture it is often possible to treat multiple ailments simultaneously, and can often help when conventional treatments have been exhausted.

Scared of needles ? - while I cannot claim that Acupuncture is entirely painless, the needles used are so fine that only a very slight pin-prick is felt initially. The needle connects with the flow of energy (Qi) within the body, and usually causes a sensation to be felt. This can be just a slight tingling, or can be quite strong, but disappears very quickly. The sensation felt when the ‘Qi’ is tapped into by the needle is often comforting, from the point of view that you will know something is happening if you feel something going on. There is also an alternative to needles - Korean Hand Therapy.

Korean Hand Therapy (KHT) is a unique and versatile style of micro reflex acupuncture or acupressure and can be fully practiced both invasively (with needles) and non-invasively (no needles – just acupressure patches). All body acupuncture points are reflected on the hands, allowing treatment of many ailments using the same Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and Five Element Acupuncture theories and practice as for standard body acupuncture. Thus KHT can be used to treat all the modern diseases and disorders that body acupuncture is used for.

Who Benefits from Korean Hand Therapy :
* Adults who have a dislike of needles - using the non-invasive techniques.
* Children - using the non-invasive techniques.
* Those with mobility problems, as treatment only takes place on the hands.
* Those who may prefer to be treated on the hands rather than receive full body acupuncture.
* As an adjunct in addition to full body acupuncture.

InnerDialogue™ uses Ontological Kinesiology along with mudras to help understand each person’s individual story. This enables us to find the root cause of an illness, irritation or distress, and what the best treatment may be. We may explore the Life Forces, and how they interact and affect our lives, and how one or more forces may become dominant or ‘out of order’ in certain situations. Using this system means that the treatment process is driven by the client rather than practitioner, i.e. governed by the person’s unique story and what they need to move forward and resolve a problem. For example it can help uncover the irritation at the root cause of an allergy, and thus help it to be resolved.
This work often appeals to people who like to understand the reason behind their ailment or repeated patterns, and who may like to take some responsibility in perhaps making changes to help themselves.
Various therapeutic possibilities may be identified and used within the session, including Acupuncture.
