Remedial massage is a therapeutic deep tissue massage. It incorporates massage, manipulation of soft tissues and exercise advice to reduce symptoms of overuse injuries, treat muscular aches and pains and correct postural problems.

Have you got a long-standing chronic injury that is taking time to heal properly?

Massage has been used for centuries as an instinctive way to relieve muscle tension and to relax the body and mind. Swedish Massage uses a variety of stroking, kneading, pressure and flowing movements over the body to treat and prevent a huge variety of complaints, or can simply be used for deep relaxation.

Benefits:
Promotes relaxation, thereby reducing stress and anxiety
Ease of muscular tension, soreness and stiffness
Improved skin tone, circulation and elasticity
Elimination of toxins and swelling
Boosts immune system
Relieves tired and stiff joints
Increases energy levels by invigorating the body’s natural systems
Aids better sleep and reduces insomnia

Sports massage is the manipulation, management and rehabilitation of the soft tissues of the body for the relief of discomfort and tension across muscles, tendons and ligaments. Primarily, a Sports Massage will entail the application of deep stroking techniques as well as using pressure, friction and stretching therapies.

Sports massage can effect the body Physically, Physiologically and Psychologically. Sports massage is a deeper type of massage that can be used where it has been identified that a more specific treatment will achieve greater results when dealing with a sporting or occupational injury, be that chronic or more acute. Several techniques can be used to reduce pain, enhance performance, improve range of movement, aid recovery and reduce pain.

Benefits of Sports Massage are:
  • Reduction in muscle stiffness, pain and fatigue
  • Reduction of Stress and Anxiety
  • Increase in flexibility and range of movement
  • Improved balance between muscles
  • Greater postural awareness
  • Encourage soft tissue repair
    • Effects of Sports Massage are:
    • Break down of Scar Tissue
    • Circulation stimulation
    • Decongests the tissues and improves tissue drainage
    • Improved muscle functionality
    • Improved Mechanoreceptor performance
    • Metabolic waste removal
    • Increases the uptake of oxygen and nutrients to the tissue cells

Increases the rate of tissue repair by improving soft tissue mobility and
Feelings of invigoration.

Muscle Energy Technique helps to lengthen a shortened muscle, relax or increase muscle tension and increase muscle strength. MET can be used to treat almost all the joints in the body, in a safe and effective manner.

As opposed to PNF, MET’s can be applied safely to almost any joint in the body. MET is applied as a preventative measure to guard against future muscle and joint injury. However, MET is mainly used as a method of treatment by individuals who may experience a limited range of motion; this can be due to any one of a variety of back, neck and shoulder pains, sciatica, postural imbalances (legs, hips or arms, for example when one is longer or higher then the other), or to treat chronic muscle pain, stiffness or injury.

Trigger Point Therapy

A trigger point is a hyperirritable spot that can be extremely painful. However, a trigger point is more than just a particularly tender spot; whilst it can be acutely painful once located, it affects not only the muscle concerned, but can often cause a "referred pain" in surrounding tissues.

PNF

Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) is a more advanced form of flexibility treatment that involves both the stretching and contraction of a targetted muscle group.

PNF stretching was originally developed as a form of rehabilitation, but it is also excellent for targeting/training specific muscle groups, so as well as increasing flexibility, it also improves muscular strength.

It is important to note that PNF is a highly specialised form of treatment and due to the stresses is can exert in certain muscle groups, it is not employed as a holistic treatment and requires a subject to be fully mobilized and conditioned (warmed-up) prior to delivery.

Pre and Post Event Massage

These types of massage are designed to assist a person about to undertake a physical activity so that they can perform at their best as well as recover as quickly as possible.

Pre-Event benefits:
Increase circulation so as to help flush the muscles with oxygenated blood

Allow the full range of motion in a joint by having relaxed the muscles affecting it.

Allow the athlete to focus on their event by releasing anxious tensions and helping to complete mental preparations.

Post- Event benefits:
Help to flush out the metabolic waste products produced as a result of exercise.

Help to induce muscle relaxation

Drain the muscles, reduce swelling and muscles soreness (next day)

Encourage general relaxation and help the person recover a stable state in their cool-down phase.
