SERVICES

Welcome to Richard Rowell Counselling

I hope the brief information will help you decide if counselling is going to be of use to you. I work with my local clients face to face and by telephone with those who live further away.

I live in Pembrokeshire, West Wales; the pictures of the local coast remind me of all the emotions we can feel when we are anxious or vulnerable and conversely when we are at peace in our lives.

About counselling

How can counselling help?

  • Time to talk things over

  • Provision of a "safe" place

  • Supportive listening

  • Helping you to "sort things out"
Typical problems discussed in counselling

  • Feeling out of control

  • Being on an emotional roller-coaster

  • Problems in relationships

  • Worry about the future

  • Feeling scared, vulnerable or angry

  • Finding it difficult to "move on"

  • Adjusting to life after change or loss
Counselling is a confidential activity; I would only break confidentiality if you are at risk of serious harm to yourself or others.

Each counselling session is fifty minutes long, though I am open to different time frames in negotiation with you.

At the beginning of our relationship I would expect us to talk on a weekly basis and to review our progress every four sessions.

About me

I hold a degree in counselling from Middlesex University and a Diploma in Person Centred Counselling from The Metanoia Institute. I am pleased to welcome clients with general counselling issues though my specialist area of work is helping people who have recently undergone treatment for cancer.

I have worked as a counsellor at an out-patients department of a specialist cancer hospital, usually seeing patients some three months after the end of their treatment. If you are undergoing treatment and would like to programme a gradual entry into counselling I can arrange this.

I am a member of the BACP and adhere to their code of ethics, I also carry full professional liability insurance. I have regular supervision and maintain ways to gain continuing personal and professional development.

I work within the Person Centred Approach, I hope you will experience me as being empathic and non-judgemental. I believe that the relationship we form is the Healing part of the work we may do together.

On a personal note. I am in my early fifties and have been in business all my working life. I feel my life experience together with my counselling training have equipped me well in my role as a professional counsellor.
