SERVICES

Holistic Massage

Holistic, or Swedish massage is the manipulation of the superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Massage has been used for thousands of years to help relieve muscle tension, stress and aids recovery by promoting relaxation and well-being.

Holistic massage uses a variety of movements over the body to treat and prevent a large number of complaints or can be used for relaxation.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fibres of the muscles, tendons and fascia.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is a form of massage involving the manipulation and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body including skin, muscles, fascia, ligaments and tendons.

Sports massage assists to correct problems and imbalances in soft tissues, thereby enhancing performance, aids recovery and prevention of injuries.

Anyone who participates in regular activity may benefit from a sports massage. However, contrary to popular belief, sports massage is not just for athletes. Many day to day problems can be treated using sports massage, as the practitioner will individually tailor a treatment plan to meet your specific needs.

How is Sports Massage Different from Other Forms of Massage?

Other forms of massage, such as holistic or Swedish massage have similar aims, in that it promotes relaxation of the mind and body and assists with the removal of waste products. However, a sports massage practitioner is primarily concerned with:
  • Muscle and skeletal alignment
  • Exercise and how it affects the body
  • Injury prevention and promotion of recovery from exercise.
This is achieved by using soft tissue manipulation such as Muscle Energy Technique (MET), Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) (both are forms of stretching), Neuromuscular Technique (NMT), Soft Tissue Release (STR), Connective Tissue Massage (CTM) and Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD).

Kinesio Taping

The Kinesio Taping Method is a form of taping that supports muscles and joints without restricting range of motion or circulation.

Kinesio tape is applied over muscles to reduce pain and inflammation, relax overused tired muscles, and to support muscles in movement on a 24hour/day basis. It is a non-restrictive type of taping which allows for full range of motion.

In contrast, traditional sports' taping is wrapped around a joint strictly for stabilization and support during a sporting event obstructing the flow of bodily fluids.
