What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the practise of inserting sterilised disposable steel needles into specific areas of the body to encourage the body’s capability for self healing.

How Does It Work?
Acupuncture needles are inserted into the body’s meridian system to alleviate any accumulation of blocked energies which may cause illness or pain.

What Is The Meridian System?
Just as we have a physical anatomy we also have an energetic anatomy, the Meridian system. The Meridian System flows bilaterally throughout the body conducting the universal energy Qi.

What is Qi?
The concept of Qi (pronounced chee) is a universal concept adhered to by the eastern traditions of medicine and is known as Qi in China, Ki in Japan, Sen in Thailand and Prana in India. It literally translates into ‘vital life force’. There is only one ‘vital life force’ but it consists of two basic energetic qualities - Yin and Yang.

What is Yin and Yang?
The concept of Yin and Yang illustrates the naturalistic ebb and flow of energy. As day gives way to night, our waking hours gives way to our sleeping hours. This is the universal balance of nature.
Considering Yin and Yang as bodily energies, any imbalance will cause an adverse effect on our health. It is this imbalance which is addressed during an acupuncture treatment.

What To Expect At An Acupuncture Treatment
At an initial consultation, a full case history will be taken. then the therapist will palpate the radial pulses and will observe the tongue. On this information the therapist accesses the condition of the energetic flow of Qi and then formulates and acu-point prescription. The client, then partially undresses and lies on a couch or remains seated while needles are inserted. The needles remain inserted for up to twentyfive minutes.

What to Expect After An Acupuncture Treatment
Depending on the condition, usually after the first treatment the symptoms will have noticeably diminished. Although it may take four to six treatments to be symptom free.

Conditions That Can be Treated by Acupuncture
Arthritis, back ache, cardio-vascular conditions, depression, fatigue, headache, irritable bowel syndrome, knee pain, lethargy, migraine head ache, joint pain, pain management, nasal problems, period problems, repetitive strain injury, sports injuries whiplash, neck pain etc.
