Pedro - 'Tuina' Chinese Massage

Tuina is a deep-tissue medicinal massage therapy from China. Literally the words Tui and Na mean pushing and holding. Tuina is thousands of years old and is one of the earliest medical forms to treat disease. Mankind’s ancestors would have spontaneously used rubbing, kneading, pressing and stretching to keep out the cold and relieve pain due to injury or tiredness. Those early Tuina techniques developed over time and today Tuina is used in Chinese hospitals to deal with various complaints such as muscle strain, back problems, injuries and a whole range of internal disorders, as well as to prevent disease.

Through skillful massage techniques along with stretching and manipulation Tuina treats the whole person, affecting both the physical and emotional imbalances. Tuina therapy, which uses fingers, hands and elbows, affects the flow of Blood and Qi (energy) in the body, to restore harmony. As well as working at the subtler energy level, structural disorders of the musculo-skeletal system can also be addressed.

Tuina deep tissue massage loosens tight muscles, helps lymphatic drainage, and is very effective in breaking down scar tissue to accelerate healing. During treatment you remain fully clothed throughout, although Chinese medicinal oils may be used after massage on the neck, lower back or on other areas of pain to bring warmth and increase the circulation of Qi and Blood to help relieve any pain. It is best to wear comfortable non-restrictive clothing - (cotton tracksuit; T-shirt and leggings; or similar are ideal).

The Chinese Philosophy of achieving and maintaining good health.

The unbroken development of Chinese civilization through the ages has meant the gradual accumulation of knowledge and experience of generations of physicians. This gives Chinese medicine a unique theoretical basis and the benefit of many centuries of empirical wisdom.

Traditional Chinese Medicine consists of four disciplines:-1) Acupuncture 2) Tuina 3) Chinese Herbs 4) Exercise such as Qi Gong or Tai Chi. The philosophy & theory of Chinese medicine governs all four disciplines. The Chinese theory of disease is that all physical and emotional problems cause disruptions in the body’s flow of life energy or Qi, which can then become stuck or deficient. Tuina can unblock stagnant Qi, move excess Qi and tonify deficient Qi through the same meridians and points used in acupuncture that run through the whole body and connect to the internal organs. Touch is a very important medium that is often lacking in our modern day Western society. Tuina massage is a very therapeutic and holistic treatment to restore health and well-being and prevent illness.

2) Tuina relaxes tendons, promotes blood circulation & reduces swelling and pain.

3) It unblocks the meridians or channels regulating the flow of Qi and Blood, and the body’s physical and pathological states, thus treating internal disease by means of influence on the internal organs.

Testimonials

As a regular computer user I experience a lot of pain in my arms from typing. I first visited Pedro Carol Almeraz with the hope that he’d help me cut down on pain killers and work more hours in a day. I didn’t expect to feel better than I had in months – but I did, straight away. His deep massage of acupressure points in my shoulder blades, arms and legs helped release tension from my muscles, giving me a good night’s sleep and relief from the pain that had become normal. I’ve been for several visits now and Pedro’s Tuina massages have given me more energy to get back to work and the motivation to jump back on the treadmill.
Thanks Pedro.

For the past two years I received regular Tuina treatments from Pedro Carol. Each time after receiving a treatment I felt relaxed, revitalized, focused and back to my full strength. I strongly recommend his beneficial treatments. Unfortunately, to my dismay he moved somewhere near Brighton, too far away from London to have regular treatments. I sincerely hope that many more people will have the opportunity to experience his therapeutic skills.

To Whom It May Concern: I confirm that I have had Tuina massage from Pedro Carol mainly for relief of stress. I found him to be very professional and discreet and was particularly impressed with the way he picked up physical blockages in the body which resulted from previous injuries without my telling him about these. I happily recommend him to anyone and had he not moved away from my area I would be keen to continue having treatments with him. Kind Regards

I went to see Pedro because I just felt like having a nice relaxing massage having just moved house etc I thought it would be rather nice to have this nice and gentle relaxing massage to revive me. And the first time it was nice and gentle and soothing And I came away feeling relaxed but sort of wiped out at the same time. However Pedro managed to bring up this long time problem I have had with the sacroiliac joint, basically a birth problem and I was in an incredible amount of pain after that initial massage. However working with chi myself… I practice tai chi every day I am aware that sometimes this is what happens. So I stuck with it and after a couple of days I was amazed at how I could move my right leg considerably better. When doing my tai chi exercises the right foot no longer rolled of the floor As I twisted and turned it maintained its position which it has not done for the six years I have been practising this particular type of tai chi when I first had actually noticed there was a problem. So as I said I was quiet impressed so I went back for a second helping. Needless to say he brought up more stuff!! The massage was gentle in parts but parts of it were pretty deep Pedro worked strongly across the shoulders and across the back. It was strong and powerful and yet strangely enough supporting and gentle at the same time, so although Pedro’s massage is vigorous in parts it gets down into the core of the problem and brings it out of you. The Tuina massage is dealing with the energy….. the body’s core energy so it’s very powerful stuff, and yes I would say afterwards a couple of days afterwards, because it took me a day or two to recover but then wham your energy levels shoot right up the pain has gone along with its attached problem and you find you feel like a lamb in springtime. You can do anything So I would highly recommend that if you want a massage that is really going to get to the nitty gritty of your aches and your pains and your physical problems or even emotional stuff…then go and see Pedro He will bring the pain out for you and then you won’t be carrying it around with you any longer…….you will walk away from his sessions feeling 2 suitcases - definitely 2 suitcases lighter. There will be a spring in your step and your youth…. the elixir of your youth…. you will find has returned and is running through your veins alongside the blood whoosh you can feel it bubbling and dancing inside of you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tuina is a totally safe therapy. All ages from children to the elderly may safely be treated.

Your main complaint, the symptoms, your medical history and any contra-indications are all discussed on your first visit. The skilled therapist works with each client as an individual.

The various techniques may be performed fast or slow, soft or hard, deep or superficially, depending on the illness and the individual’s preference.

How many Tuina treatments will I need?

This question is difficult to answer because everyone responds differently. Ususally, the longer a problem has existed, the longer it can take to correct. However, Tuina is a very powerful form of massage and can be both deeply relaxing and also very invigorating, and often after just one or two treatments a frequent remark often heard from both men and women is “I feel like a new person”. You can then decide to have more treatments just to maintain that great feeling, as the benefits generally last longer and longer with repeated treatments.
