SERVICES
WELCOME

Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing developed over 3000 years ago as part of the traditional medicine of China. The aim of the treatment is to restore the balance of the universal energy Qi (pronounced chee) in the body, through inserting fine needles into strategic points. Qi consists of Yin and Yang and these two opposite, but complementary, forces need to be in balance otherwise disease or illness occurs.

Acupuncture, therefore, is a natural, safe, gentle and effective way of treating any form of ill health you may be experiencing. The focus is on YOU as an individual and your unique experience of your body and yourself. Your body strives to be healthy or balanced. When it is ‘out of balance’ physically, mentally or emotionally we feel ‘unwell’.

Many things can cause this imbalance:

Stress, Anxiety, Grief, Poor diet, Lack of sleep, Weather
Trauma, Shock – physical or emotional, Hereditary factors

The list is endless and as a consequence the body’s healing capacity becomes compromised. The result can be physical or mental discomfort and increased susceptibility to illness. Acupuncture is given to stimulate the body’s own healing by redressing this imbalance. It can also help to boost energy levels in order to remain healthy. Although it is traditional to use needles for treatment, electro-acupuncture can also be given as an alternative. This method of treatment is non-invasive and helpful when needles may be inappropriate for use.

About Pauline Ronson, LicAc, MSAAc

I began my career in complementary medicine by studying classical acupuncture in the late 1970s at the London Academy of Acupuncture. From there my interests led me to study auricular acupuncture in Bristol with the Society of Auricular Acupuncturists in 1981.

In 2001 I went to Beijing in China to further study Traditional Chinese Acupuncture at the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. My studies have also included the Addictive Behaviour Certification course with the University of Kent and I have completed a Counselling Skills course with the AQA organisation.

I have been passionate about acupuncture for over twenty eight years now and have worked in my own successful private practice during this time. I was based in North West Kent for over 22 years and then moved to Wokingham in Berkshire six years ago.

I was Secretary for the Society of Auricular Acupuncturists for over 20 years and began teaching auricular acupuncture during this time. I was responsible for designing all of the Society’s training programmes in Auricular Acupuncture (see their website www.auricularacupuncture.org.uk.) Although I retired from the post in 2008 I still lecture Auricular Acupuncture for the Society from time to time.

I have had the privilege of writing a handbook entitled ‘Understanding Auricular Acupuncture, which was published in January 2007 by First Stone Publishing. The book gives the public a perfect introduction to this fascinating complementary therapy. Buy my Book

I am presently Treasurer of the Microsystems Acupuncture Regulatory Working Group (www.MAcRWG.org) which is preparing this profession for Voluntary Self Regulation in the near future. The Group is funded by the Princes Foundation Trust.

CONSULTATION

During the initial consultation and treatment great attention is given to who you are as a person, your medical history, your background and what is important to you. The focus is on you as an individual. For this reason, it is a long appointment of more than an hour. Subsequent appointments are usually one hour duration

Why so much emphasis on the individual?

If hay fever were caused by pollen we would all suffer from it. It results from a body’s inappropriate reaction to something natural. Similarly, when a bug is doing the rounds at school, some children will be in bed for a week whilst others simply won’t get it. Our experience of health is unique, and healing must be based on treating the individual.

Frequency of Treatment

Initially it is preferable to attend for treatment on a weekly basis until your condition has improved. Once you are feeling better the frequency can be lengthened. Maintenance treatment every few months can be very beneficial. (Rather like having your car serviced before it breaks down on you).

Home Visits

If you are unable to visit my clinic in Wokingham, I would be happy to visit you in your own home. There would be an extra charge for my travelling costs. Please ask.

Informal Chat

If you are considering acupuncture for the first time, you will be more than welcome to attend for a FREE 15 minute informal chat to discuss your health problems and see whether I can help you.

EAR ACUPUNCTURE

What is Auricular (Ear) Acupuncture?

Auricular or Ear Acupuncture is a specialised complementary system of medicine where acupuncture points on the outer ears are treated. These points correspond to all areas of our body. Gentle stimulation creates a specific response, aids our natural healing mechanism and helps us to rebalance. By sending the right signals to different areas of our body, it promotes natural self-healing and restores health.

What are the benefits?

Because the ears are easily accessible and you do not need to remove any clothing, Auricular Acupuncture can be a very effective and quick method of treatment. One of the fastest areas where Auricular Acupuncture is being used is for the treatment of addictions. It has been a popular choice for helping with smoking cessation and weight loss in recent years. The treatment helps reduce cravings for nicotine and food. Her Majesty’s Prison Service and many drugs agencies up and down the United Kingdom use Auricular Acupuncture to help clients with their drug and alcohol addictions.

Who can it help?

Auricular Acupuncture is very helpful for elderly people where movement and removing clothing may be difficult. However, it can be administered to all age groups though and is especially beneficial for young children.

What Conditions Can It Help?

Most chronic complaints can be treated effectively and simply with Auricular Acupuncture:

  • Anxiety
  • Arthritis
  • Asthma
  • Back Pain
  • Colitis
  • Depression
  • Hay Fever
  • Addictions, e.g. Alcohol, Drugs etc.

  • Headaches
  • Hiatus Hernia
  • Indigestion

  • Obesity
  • P.M.S.

  • Sciatica
  • Shingles
  • Sinusitis
  • Stopping Smoking
  • Tendonitis
  • Tennis Elbow
  • M.E.

  • Please note that Auricular Acupuncture is unique because it can be used independently or as an adjunct to other therapies, such as Traditional Body Acupuncture.
