About Nutriworks

Nutriworks is unique as it offers both naturopathic nutrition and Shiatsu massage. Although it is more likely that each therapy will be used separately, they can also work very well together.

For example if you require an in-depth nutritional consultation but also have symptoms of stress, anxiety or musculoskeletal problems (i.e. pain in the back, shoulders, neck or hips), then it is possible to book a Shiatsu treatment at a later date or to combine a Shiatsu treatment with your follow-up nutritional consultation.

If you are primarily interested in Shiatsu, general advice on diet, supplements and lifestyle can be offered at the end of your treatment if appropriate.

Your Consultant

My interest in complementary medicine began about 20 years ago when I experienced serious back and pelvic pain while living and working abroad - the result, I think of my erratic lifestyle at that time. However, medical tests showed no indication of anything being wrong, despite the fact that I was in pain on a daily basis and unable to walk very far. This was especially frustrating as I was used to being very active. A friend suggested I try homeopathy, and although a bit sceptical, I tried it, and for the first time in months my pelvic pain subsided; I also had chiropractic treatment which helped significantly to stabalize my back and pelvis.

Because I am someone who tends to put a great deal of energy into whatever I do, my energy relaped once more about 10 years ago, due to working full time as well as studying, together with the emotional impact of bereavement and other stressful life events that affect us all. This time nutrition, shiatsu, stress management and lifestyle changes became integral to my recovery. These experiences have shown me how a multi-disciplinary approach to health is often needed and how stress of all kinds can impact seriously on a person's health and happiness. It also became clear to me that although medication has its place, just treating symptoms of ill health, rather than the cause, is not enough for long term positive results.

The above experiences led to a 3-year course in Shiatsu which I completed in 1995 (and have been practicing since then), and more recently a 5-year degree course leading to a BSc in Nutritional Medicine. Other courses completed are advanced pelvic correction techniques with Alexander Barrie in Harley Street, on-site massage and Reiki (Level 2), all of which can be incorporated into Shiatsu treatments.

I am continuing my professional development by attending regular workshops and seminars to enable me to keep up to date with the latest research, while constantly adding to my knowledge.

Testimonials

"The Shiatsu sessions I had with Wendy were very beneficial in the management of a long-term problem with chronic headaches, she also gave me exercises to do at home which enabled me to have some control over my symptoms and these have been invaluable. I would not hesitate in recommending her".

"The nutritional consultation was very helpful, by going through past events and ailments I was able to see how much stress I had been putting myself under. The report you gave to me helped greatly .....thank you so much for the recipes so I can be a bit more creative with my meals and I have been getting some body work as you suggested. I liked your professional manner when dealing with my issues. You had a well-balanced approach to the consultation process allowing me sufficient time to express my concerns and I could feel your sincere desire to make me better which was presented in a soft and gentle manner."

"I met Wendy at a holistic fair where she was giving short shiatsu sessions. I had suffered with a painful back for several years and was interested in the treatment she was giving. However I was a bit sceptical that she would be able to help me and as my problem appeared quite severe she was not sure either, but was willing to try. Wendy found that I had very tight muscles either side of my spine and this was causing me to stoop slightly and causing constant pain. She asked me lie on a futon on the floor (you don't need to undress either) and after the 15 minutes session, which felt very relaxing, I was amazed that I was able to stand taller and that the pain had lessened. This resulted in me booking regular shaitsu sessions for 6 months (monthly after the first month) and I was really happy with the results - I am now able to stand up straight, do not have constant pain anymore and can take my dogs for walks without my back being in pain afterwards - this treatment has literally changed my life".
