Reflexology

Nourishment for mind and body.

Reflexology is an ancient type of foot massage that works on a number of ‘reflex points’ in the feet in order to rebalance the body’s energies and create a deep state of relaxation. It has many reported health benefits but the healing capacity of this therapy will vary from individual to individual.

We live at such a fast pace nowadays that it can be difficult to step off the ‘treadmill’ of daily living and enjoy a truly relaxed state of being. Stress in all its forms (physical, mental, emotional) can disrupt the natural equilibrium of the body and set in motion a cascade of physiological changes that generate symptoms of ill health.

A Reflexology treatment can bring about a state of relaxation that can be deeply refreshing, and give you time away from your normal routine.

What happens in a Reflexology Treatment?

You remain fully clothed and only need to remove shoes and socks. You will be asked to lie down or sit on a therapy couch in a position that is comfortable for you. Any disability you have will be accommodated as far as possible. A full medical history will be taken so that we are aware of any medical conditions and medication being taken. You will be invited to relax and let go of any tensions or distractions during the treatment – many people like to close their eyes.

A firm but gentle pressure is applied (by the therapist’s fingers and thumbs) to all the reflex points in the feet, paying particular attention to areas of sensitivity /discomfort and adjusting the pressure accordingly. The treatment lasts approximately 50 minutes and you will be advised to drink water afterwards to help hydrate the body and improve elimination.

There is no set pattern for frequency of treatments, but weekly sessions may be advised for a short while, dropping down to monthly sessions to maintain the benefits achieved.

About Us

Nourishment for mind and body!

Your body depends on good nutrition to function properly, just as a car requires appropriate fuel. However, each person is biochemically unique and so what might be suitable for one person may not suit another. Illness is a signal that we are out of balance in some way.

Nutritional Therapy seeks to find the underlying causes of health problems. The focus is on the whole person, not just the symptom. Sir William Osler (a noted physician and professor at Johns Hopkins University) stated that it was more important to discover what sort of patient had a disease than what sort of disease a patient had.

My aim is to help people gain a better understanding of how their diet and lifestyle impacts on their health so that they can make more informed choices to support long term improvements. A detailed case history is taken for each client covering family history, medical history, lifestyle, significant stressful events (eg exposure to toxins, major emotional issues) as well as dietary intake. Where appropriate, medical and functional tests may be recommended in order to obtain a clearer picture of underlying imbalances/deficiencies.

Dietary and supplement recommendations are tailored to each individual. There is no compulsory time frame for a programme and no set amount of consultations. These depend on each person's requirements, but typically a programme would consist of 2 or 3 consultations over a 3 month period, with a recommendation to have a review at 6 or 12 months to check that progress has been maintained.
