Welcome to Neil Ward Counselling

My name is Neil Ward and I’m an independent Counsellor working in Glasgow and Edinburgh. I offer face-to-face and telephone counselling to individual clients. I also offer counselling for couples and employee assistance/workplace clients.

Are you experiencing one or more of the following issues?
  • Depression
  • Stress or anxiety
  • Relationship problems
  • Low self-esteem or low self-confidence
  • Mental health problems
  • Bereavement, grief or loss
  • Concerns relating to your sexual orientation or sexuality
  • Career or work problems
  • Long-term health conditions
  • Abuse – sexual, emotional or physical
  • Anger management
  • Student or academic concerns
If so, the good news is that counselling could help you.

Whether you are considering counselling for specific problems, difficult life events, vague feelings that something is not quite right in your life or for personal growth and development reasons, working with a Counsellor can help.

Let’s face it, it can be difficult to find the right sort of help and support.

You may have already tried various ways to help yourself, with varying degrees of success.

Alternatively, you may have turned to friends or family for assistance. However, it can be difficult for people who are close to you to be detached and impartial. Furthermore, it can be hard to talk to them about certain problems.

That’s what makes talking to a Counsellor different. A Counsellor is trained to take an objective view of your issues.

Counselling is a psychological therapy and is often described as a talking cure. It is highly effective. For the large majority of people, it works.

Counselling gives you the opportunity, time and space to talk freely and tell your story. It also gives you a private, safe and confidential setting in which to express yourself, free from interruptions.

For my part, I will:
  • Listen to you attentively and patiently, while you explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours
  • Value what you say
  • Respond to you with compassion and empathy
  • Warmly accept you as you are, without judgement or criticism
  • Strive to understand you as fully as possible
  • Relate to you in an honest and genuine manner
While I am trained and skilled in providing the optimum conditions for effective therapeutic relationships, I firmly believe that you are the expert in your own life. You have an innate ability to grow and develop, even if, at this time in your life, that may have become blocked.

Because of this, our counselling relationship will be very much a collaborative or two-way process, where we both have a part to play. My job does not involve telling you what to do or giving you advice. You are in control of any changes you wish to make. I will, nevertheless, support and guide you to find your own unique solutions to your problems.

By feeling heard, understood and accepted, you will hopefully feel able to identify any changes required to improve the parts of your life that have become stuck or painful. This should enable you to start living your life with a greater sense of happiness, health and well-being.

About Neil

I am a professionally trained, qualified and experienced Counsellor.

Before training as a Counsellor, I worked as a Librarian in the public, academic and commercial sectors. After this, I spent a number of years working with adults in lifelong learning and helping unemployed people get back into work.

I decided to become a Counsellor because I have a passion for helping people to grow and develop and reach their potential.

Furthermore, I discovered first hand, that counselling and therapy work. I have experienced them myself.

When I’m not counselling, I enjoy browsing in bookshops, going to the cinema, travelling and singing.
