Welcome to Natural Therapy with Marie

My name is Marie Glover. I have had an interest in all things 'natural' for many years and tend to encorporate this belief into my work as complementary therapist.

There has been a rise in interest in organic and environmental issues over the recent years and this is something that appeals to me. My work background and general life experience has given me an appreciation of how stress can effect the whole body, mind and spirit and the need to counter balance this stress. I work from home, in Locking. It is a small, quiet village. My clients often comment how peaceful my home is and how much more relaxed and calm they feel after their treatment. In this busy world we live in , it is so important to have quality 'time out. If this is something that you are looking for? then why not treat yourself, you deserve it.

Therapies I offer:
Aromatherapy, Corporate Massage, Indian Head Massage, Hopi Ear Candling Hot Stone Massage, Hypnotherapy and Reflexology.

What sets me apart from other businesses?

I qualified as as Occupational Therapist in 1993. This work, in the N.H.S, has given an extensive knowledge of how the human body and mind works and given me great experience of working with the public, especially during stressful times.

I have gone on to extend my knowledge in my private practice as a complementary therapist. I am a member of FHT ( Federation of Holistic Therapies),The National Council of Hypnotherapists .I am also a member of Business Link and The Federation for Small Businesses.

Where and who are my customers?

I work within the Weston-Super-Mare area, with a travelling distance span to Bristol and down to Highbridge. I offer my services to the general public, groups and businesses.

I also do talks to groups and businesses on the nature of my work with demonstration and a talk on Norfolk Lavender; how the company was established, how products are made and the benefits and use of lavender.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the applied use of pure essential oil that has been extracted from plants, flowers and wood.

Aromatherapy can be used in massage, in the bath, on a burner, in stream inhalation, a couple of drops applied to a tissue or simply smelt straight from the bottle.

During an aromatherapy massage, the therapist will use slow, long strokes of light/medium strength. The client is undressed to underwear and lying down on the couch.
This style of massage helps to release tension and tightness held in muscles, especially shoulders and lower back.
It is a very reassuring, safe, nurturing type of massage aiming for total relaxation.
The use of relaxing music in the background and soft lights adds to the experience of relaxation.
For that extra special touch I heat the massage couch and the oils I am using, this helps the muscles to open up and relax further.
Most clients are deeply relaxed at the end of an aromatherapy massage, some even fall asleep, which is great.

My clients report that they sleep so much better after an aromatherapy massage.

As a trained aromatherapist I can make up a blend of oils that suit your individual specific needs.I have made up specific blends for clients to use at home, so they can extend their treatment benefit.
The essential oils are very concentrated and only a few drops are required for maximun effect.

COST

Back,neck and scalp massage (45 minutes) £28.
reduced cost of £22 for senior citizens, students and unemployed(on production of evidence)

Full Body Massage (1 hour 20 minutes) £38.
reduced cost of £33 for same above

When purchasing essential oils, you should only buy PURE essential oil, that have been stored in a dark bottle with a dropper in the top. Oils must be stored away from direct sunlight, a bathroom cabinet is ideal. This stops evaporation of the oils, as they are very sensitive to light and air and will help to increase their shelf life. Typically, lavender has a shelf life of up to 2 years when stored in this way.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a method of activating the healing powers of the body.Everybody has the potential for self healing, given the right conditions. Reflexology is aiming to reach that state, to enable a return to a natural state of health in equiibrium.

Reflexology simply means 'the study of the reflexes'.

The feet are cleaned and then there is a general massage of both feet and lower leg, followed with specific accupressure points over the whole foot using the thumb or fingers.
Only the shoes and socks/tights need to be removed for this treatment, so it makes an ideal treatment for those who may not feel comfortable removing their clothes.
The client can either lie down or sit up, depending on preference. However, in reflexology there can be a dialogue between the client and therapist, as the therapist will often ask the client how specific points feel.

WILL IT HURT?

Clients report a range of sensations from mild touch, to a bruise sensation or a sharp sensation as if the thumb nail is sticking in.This is important, as it indicates to the therapist which specific areas of the body are showing a stress response. Some times the client may not be aware that they are feeling stressed, but the feet have a lovely way of 'telling the story', especially if kidney and adrenal glands are highlighted;thereby helping to raise awareness of how the body is functioning at the time.
As well as the feedback from the client , the therapist is feeling for delicate changes in the muscle as they apply thumb pressure. It is like feeling for grains of sand or bubble wrap.
This is build up of lactic acid(natural waste product) in the muscle and needs to be dispersed, to start the process of detoxification. This may sound painful, but actually has the opposite effect. Many clients are deeply relaxed by the end of the session and some fall asleep.

HOW LONG IS A SESSION?

The initial session includes a consultation, so allow an hour. There after a session lasts 45 minutes.

BENEFITS OF REFLEXOLOGY

Helping to
    - improve circulation to the lower extremities (furthest point away from the heart)
    - cleanse the body of toxins and impurities from increased lymphatic action
    - reach a state of homeostasis, or natural healthy balance
    - relax body and mind
    - revitalise energy levels.
    - reduce stress and thereby improve the immune system

COST

£25 for 45 minute treatment
reduced rate of £22 for senior citizens, students and unemployed(on production of evidence)

Hypnotherapy

There have been many misconceptions of hypnotherapy in the past, based on stage hypnosis.
Hypnotherapy is a totally natural phenomena which we all experience on a daily basis, but may not be aware of it.

For example. say you drive to work on the motorway, for a 30 minute journey. It is something you do a daily basis. you know the route well, you are comfortable and confident driving that route. You are driving along and for a brief moment your thoughts are on something totally different than being aware of actually driving, it may be, 'what am i going to eat tonight'? For that brief moment you were in a hypnotic trance. you were relaxed enough in the moment to think about something else, which then took your focus of attention.

That is the basis of hypnotherapy. The therapist assists the client to relax, to a level that is comfortable and that they are happy being at and then takes them on a guided journey( for example, a trip around a garden)to focus their attention. The journey is a pleasant one that helps to relax the person deeper and help them start using the power of their imagination in a positive and constructive way.

It is at the point when the client is relaxed and imagining the positive journey that the therapist will start bringing in the specific therapy that the client wants to work on. The therapist will just be talking, but in a postive way.The client simply has to lie/sit and just let the postive words/affirmations 'wash' over them.

COSTS

Initial consultation is free and lasts for an hour. I freely give you a general hypnotherapy c.d at the first meeting to listen to inbetween sessions.£35 per hour thereafter.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

It is difficult to answer this questions, as everyone responds at different rates, but most people start seeing results after 2/3 sessions.People report that the first thing they notice is an improvement in sleep.

Hypnotherapy C.D

Are you feeling stressed, anxious, depressed or angry?
Are you not sleeping well?

Would you like to feel a lot better?

I have created a hypnotherapy C.D that will help you find a natural state of relaxation. Relaxation is a totally natural state for us to be in, by somehow, with life's stresses it simply elludes us. Scientists now accept that the mind and the body are linked, there is no divide.

Our bodies are amazing at putting up with a tremendous workload but at some point will say "enough's enough" and thats when we start noticing the aches and pains

Here, in listening to this c.d, you will be able to reconnect to that wonderful relaxed state. For when we are relaxed, our whole body and mind can work so much better and actually start the process of self healing.

The C.D consists of 2 x 30 minute general hypnotherapy sessions.
A hypnotherapy consists of relaxation of the body, a guided visualisation (a pleasant journey through a beautiful garden or lying on a boat in the summer) and finishing with positive words to raise self esteem and confidence.

To get the benefits from this C.D all you have to do is switch it on, sit back, close your eyes (if you like) and just let my soothing voice wash over you to take you into a deep state of relaxation. You dont have to 'do' anything else.

Clients of mine have reported after just one week of listening daily to the C.D that their sleep has improved and they feel calmer.

If this is something YOU too would like then the C.D can be purchased here for just £9.99.

Hopi Ear Candles

I also include a sinus and scalp massage in the treatment

COSTS

£25 for a 35-40 minute treatment
reduced rate of £22 for senior citizens, students and unemployed(on production of evidence)

Indian Head Massage

This treatment has come from Indian, where they are use to have a head massage from birth.

It is a seated massage.
You have option of a dry clothed massage or using oils on the skin.
The massage starts at the base of the shoulder blades, up over the shoulders, neck and onto the head/face and back down, to finish on the side of the upper arms.
The therapist tends to stand and work from behind the seated client.

The style of massage uses a mixture of slow smooth strokes and quick stimulatatory strokes.

Benefits of Treatment:

-relaxation of tight muscles, especially over the shoulders/base of neck, where we tend to hold tension
-increased circulation especially to head area
-general sense of peace and deep relaxation

COST

£26 for 30 minutes
£21 for senior citizens, students and unemployed
-detoxification
-increased lymphatic action, helps immunity
-improved sleep

Hot Stone Massage

This style of massage has recently been introduced from America.

It uses besalt stone that has been highly smoothed and polished and are lovely to hold.

The stones are heated up to 50* in a special 'cooker' and safely applied to the skin by the therapist.
The therapist massages with the stones using long slow smooth strokes.

The muscles absorb the heat and open up more easily than during a typical hand massage. This makes this style of massage a much deeper massage than the therapist using their hands alone, but because the stones are so smooth, it is not as 'uncomfortable' as a deep tissue masssage can be. It is almost impossible to distinguish where the therapist hands stop and the stones begin.

Once a client is lying on their back, I like to pop a heated stone under each knee and in the hand, which adds a touch of extra soothing warmth.

Clients report that they find it quicker to relax because of the extra warmth and that there is something special about this style of massage.

It is safe to use with people of all conditions , but clients with arthritis report extra special benefit, because of the soothing nature of the heat.

This style of massage is slightly slower than hand massage because of the extra care and attention used when laying on the stones with purpose and the slow, long smooth nature of the stroke applied.

TIME

Back/neck/scalp massage- allow yourself an hour time span
Full Body Massage- allow yourself an hour and half

COST

Back/neck/scalp massage - £33 (£28 for concessions)
Full Body Massage - £48 (£45 for concessions)

About Marie

My name is Marie Glover and I would like to tell you a bit about myself so you can get an idea of who I am.

From childhood my parents had a home for adults with learning difficulties. This gave me great experience of working with people and professionals from an early age.

At 18, I was a live in carer to a lady with M.S. this gave me great insight into how physical illness can effect an individual physically and pyschologically. This experience also gave me insight into how the life of a carer can be.

In 1993 I qualified as an Occupational Therapist (O.T) This work involved rehabilitaion of people who had suffered physical illness such as Strokes, Parkinson Disease, M.S etc and Mental Health illness such as depression, anxiety, addiction etc. Both remits of work required an ability to guide someone through a relaxation technique and this has been invaluable in my present work. I have worked in Bristol hospitals and Weston-Super-Mare General/Quantock ( I was acting manager of O.T services for a short time, but realised I prefered contact with patients)

Whilst working in this remit I intutively found I enjoyed offering massage to the patients, especially those who had had a stroke, as it helped to relieve huge physical tension, especially on their affected side and anxiety. I found working in the N.H.S environment stressful and found relief in having treatments myself. This kick started my interest in complementary therapy, especially as I could see/feel the side effects were of a positive nature, unlike the side effects of medication that I witnessed in my patients at hospital. So in 2000 I started my, ongoing, learning into complementary therapies and all things 'natural'. I left N.H.S in 2004 to undertake private pratice in complementary therapies on full time basis and have enjoyed it ever since.

I am registered with F.H.T, one of the largest professional bodies for therapists.
