The Therapies Explained

Deep tissue massage
Paula specialises in deep tissue massage which can bring many benefits from relief from general aches and pains to deep relaxation.

What the treatment involves
The treatment involves a varied range of massage movements from kneading, knuckling and deep stroking of various areas to the deeper manipulation of trigger points. If required their may be some deeper pressure applied alongside stretching, leaning and rocking techniques all beneficial for greater spinal & joint mobility. It is required that the client wear loose comfortable clothing a T shirt and jogging pants would be ideal.

Benefits
In my experience I have seen many clients with problems that have not been improved by other courses of therapy I.e. Physiotherapy osteopathy, chiropractic and even surgery. In most cases massage has quickly and effectively resolved the problem, proving that it is often the best treatment method. And in a complementary role with other therapies, massage can greatly speed recovery because of its wide range of benefits.

Indian Head Massage
Indian head massage is a safe, simple, yet effective therapy that not only provides relief from aches and pains but is also renowned for relieving the symptoms of stress.

What the treatment involves
Indian head massage is a touch therapy that works on the shoulders, arms, neck, face and scalp. These areas are important energy centres within the body, if you are feeling stressed or angry; tension will most likely be stored there. This tension can then result in a stiff neck and shoulders, eye strain and head aches.

Indian head massage works with a firm but gentle rhythm to unknot blockages especially in the neck and shoulders, where stress affects major muscle groups. Tensions are eased and fibrous knots and nodules melt away. However, its effect is not just physical; it works on an emotional level too. The simple act of sitting down and being still with someone‘s, healing hands on your head will disperse stress straight away.

Reflexology
Reflexology has been used as a means of maintaining good health and wellbeing for thousands of years. The earliest known records of reflexology have been found in pictographs in ancient Egypt. These detailed pictographs show healers working on the feet of soldiers.

How reflexology works
Reflexologies apply pressure techniques to the feet to stimulate specific reflex areas with the intention of producing a beneficial response in the other parts of the body. Reflexology maps show the various reflex areas and their corresponding body parts. The mirror image of the body in the feet helps reflexologies to target specific areas.

When the body is exposed to danger, an ancient survival method called the ‘flight or fight’ response is activated. During this response, information gathered from the environment is communicated instantly to the brain, internal organs, and muscles so that they can prepare the body for appropriate action. Both the feet and hands participate in this response.

Reflexology works on the same principles, by applying pressure to reflex points it works as a stress reducer in the nervous system. Promoting beneficial effects on the whole body. Stimulus to pressure sensors on the feet, prompting a reflexive response throughout the body, including the internal organs. A reflex effect occurs as the body automatically and unconsciously resets its stress mechanism. When reflexology techniques are applied to a specific part of the foot, a specific relaxation response occurs in the corresponding body part. As the feet respond to the new sensory experience of reflexology’s pressure techniques, the work interrupts patterns of stress and prompts a general relaxation response in the whole body. It can even not only interrupt stress but also condition the body to an improved response to it.

What to expect from a treatment
The season is conducted in a relaxed atmosphere, the patient will remain clothed except for the removal of shoes and socks, and a soothing foot bath is administered before the treatment begins. The patient lies on a massage table whilst the therapist gives the treatment and consultation.

The whole of both feet are worked on in turn, with specific thumb and finger pressure techniques. Further stretch and massage techniques are used to provide further relations.

Reiki
Reiki is an ancient, simple and practical technique for deep relaxation. It’s a non invasive healing treatment that can be used on any condition because you are treating the person rather than the condition. When a person starts to feel better about themselves, their condition also begins to improve.

What is Reiki
The word Reiki is Japanese, and is made up of two words ‘rei’ meaning universal and ‘ki’ meaning life force. It is the energy that creates every thing around and within us. Reiki healers have been trained in how to make a direct connection to the unlimited supply of universal energy around us and channel this healing energy through them to the recipient. They energy is then used by the recipient for whatever healing the client needs.

It is my belief that people are attracted to Reiki because of a need to feel nurtured, life is so hectic and stressful in these modern times that there is no time for the mind to be still. There is something about the word ‘healing’ that is comforting and reassuring. Reiki can provide a safe haven away from the world, a place where they can be still and tranquil.

As Reiki works on all levels it can be useful to treat mental conditions, such as anxiety, phobias and insomnia. It can also help emotional conditions such as unhappiness, grief, loneliness and low self-esteem.

What you may experience during a treatment
You may feel a flow of energy, warmth, coolness, tingling or nothing at all, there are no set rules, and everyone’s experience with Reiki is different and unique to themselves.

How will you feel after a treatment?
Everyone reacts differently, but many people feel lighter, calmer and deeply relaxed. You may feel energetic, or very tired. But however you feel, begin the process of listening to your body. You may notice that your attitude towards people around you or yourself changes.

Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy uses gentle, relaxing techniques combined with the use of essential oils to heal, alleviate pain and regulate mood.

Aromatherapy massage works through the inhalation and absorption of essential oils, combined with gentle specialised massage techniques that work on draining the lymphatic system and relaxing the nervous system.
During massage the essential oils are absorbed through the skin into the blood stream, they are carried through the circulatory system where there healing properties can affect internal organs. Essential oils wonderful healing properties also provide wonderful benefits to the skin improving its tone and helping to clear infections and wounds.

What to expect from a treatment
You will be asked to remove all clothing except for underwear; however the therapist will leave the room so that you can undress in privacy. In addition towels are provided to cover you during the massage. The only time the therapist pulls back the towel is to work on a specific area.

The duration of a full body massage is about one hour, by which time you will have benefited from a whole body massage including back, arms, legs, hands, feet, stomach ( if required), upper chest, neck and face.
Price full body £40, back £25, facial £10
