History Of The Clinic
Masters Family Osteopathic Practice is a truly family affair.
Paul Masters, founder of the practice graduated in 1978 and has been established in Westcliff -on-Sea, serving the community, for over 25 years.
In 1997 he was joined by his son Lee, a graduate from the London School of Osteopathy, and between them they treat patients not only from the surrounding areas but also as far a field as Surrey, Sussex and Norfolk, with many patients who have moved away from the area still returning whenever they can for treatment, preferring the friendly, gentle, hands-on approach of this clinic. The practice manager is Wendy, wife of Paul and mother of Lee, making it an all round family clinic.
Being registered involves an in depth investigation by the General Osteopathic Council into each practitioners competence and ability to practise. To reflect the quality of treatment you shall recieve, please click the link below to view the General Osteopathic Council's web site. It displays information on what is required to obtain registration with the GOC.
Apart from the Traditional Osteopathy practiced at this clinic Paul and Lee also specialise in Craniopathy, a cranial treatment taught to Paul by the sons of the founder of the system in America. So impressed were they with Paul’s grasp and execution of the subject that upon their retirement from practice, they appointed him as the official representative and head of Craniopathy in their place and Paul has passed on his knowledge to Lee, with them both adding their own individual approach to this very specialised field.
Introducing The Body Adjustment
Over the years we at Masters Family Osteopathic Practice have developed a system of treatment that is safe, gentle and effective for a multitude of injuries, strains, sprains to the muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints of the body.
We have had countless success in treating physical pains such as back pain, neck and shoulder pains, tennis and golfers elbow, knee and hip problems, sciatica disc problems, pins and needles and numbness of limbs, wrist joint problems, Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, jaw joint pain, facial neuralgia and headaches to name but a few.
What many people do not realise is that Osteopathy is not only effective in treating physical pain but is also an effective method of treatment to improve overall general health and an effective way of improving and maintaining overall mobility of the body and general function of the body’s activities.
How is this achieved?
As we said earlier, at Masters Family Osteopathic Practice we have developed a safe, gentle, effective system of Osteopathic treatment that is suitable for all ages from children to octogenarians.
Our treatment is based on both traditional and modern methods that help regulate the nervous system.
Each and every one of us develops our own idiosyncratic muscular habits in motion, action, contraction and relaxation – but what is the normal condition of a muscle? It is neither contraction nor slackness; it is a balance between the two. This balance is what is termed “normal tone of muscle” which in turn is governed by the nervous system and the brain.
