Remedial Massage
In one form or another, massage may be the most ancient and intuitive of all the healing arts. It offers touch, movement and energy and all these qualities are associated with the well-being of the whole person. Scientific studies have demonstrated its efficacy with premature babies, children in intensive care, the terminally sick, cardiac, cancer and psychiatric patients. It is comforting, soothing, healing and benefits both the mind and the body inducing sensations of well-being and relaxation.

Counselling & Coaching
Counselling comes from the verb 'to counsel' - to give advice. In recent times though counselling has become recognised as being the art of listening rather than talking. Active listening is about really being with someone when they need to talk about whatever is going on in their lives at a particular time. It may be about bereavement, work, relationships, depression, just needing a listening ear or trying to work through a particular problem.

Homeopathy
The basis of homeopathy works with the principle of the Vital Force. The Vital Force helps to keep the mind, body and emotions in continuous balance. Stress, viruses, create an imbalance, the signs of which can be seen emotionally, physically or mentally which then creates illness or dis-ease in the body. The Vital Force, then needs to be stimulated back into balance and normal functioning and this work is done by the homeopathic remedies which use mainly herbal substances.

Japenesse Facial Treatment
This is a traditional Japanese therapy which is unique and can't really be compared with other forms of face massage. It treats the skin and muscles of the face and internal organs by balancing the energy or Ki of the whole body. This is a refined hand massage which is carried out in accordance with original Japanese medical theory. The treatment will take about an hour and half which includes time at the end where you will be left on the couch for ten to fifteen minutes and then brought warm water to drink which helps with the elimination of toxins from the body. If these were to remain it would decrease the efficacy of the treatment.

Ear Candles
This therapy is part of the ancient tradition of Native American Indians. These candles are now used all over the world as a clearing therapy which can be helpful for many ear related problems. The ear candles are handmade from cotton, beeswax and impregnated with honey and essential oils and both ears are treated, each with a new ear candle. This non-invasive therapy can help with the following ear and sinus conditions......snoring, ear wax, sinusitis, glue ear, headaches, tinnitus, Menieres disease, for those who swim or dive and migraines. Ear candling can also help to reduce the feeling of excessive pressure, for instance when flying.

Energy balancing
Chakra is the Sanskrit word for wheel. They are cone shaped vortices situated at set points in the body which vibrate and spin within the energy body. Simply, the chakras are energy centres. They draw energy in from the universal energy field which is then sent into the energy pathways of the body - known as meridians in traditional Chinese healing or nadis in the Indian yogic system. Each chakra operates at a different density and so their energy travels through, and affects the body at many levels and in many ways; the nervous system, and through this the endocrine glands; our state of mind and also our physical body and our spiritual awareness.

Infinity Massage
An endless flow of rhythmical movement over the whole body. This technique is based on the knowledge that the human body responds to touch and rhythm and the circular, infinity movement used helps to activate innate healing energy in the body. Infinity is a term that is used in theology, mathematics, philosophy but in every day terminology it is understood to be something without beginning and without end. It is a timeless energy - an ageless force.

In terms of bodywork, applying this symbol to the body helps us to connect with the idea of oneness and unity with ourselves which can give a sense of wholeness and completeness.Take a step into infinity and experience physical and mental freedom which then allows us to let go of limitations and helps to release tension, anxiety and stress.

Body/Face Brush Massage
Body brushing stimulates the lymphatic system and so aids drainage through the body. The brushing is very light and applied directly to the skin without the use of oils. Some exfoliation will be achieved but that is not the main purpose of the therapy.

It is rhythmical, calming, restorative and soothing and yet leaves you feeling invigorated. It leaves your skin glowing and refreshed. Face brushing uses very, very soft fine bristle brushes - very soothing and exceptionally relaxing. This is a therapy in its own right or it can added to any of the other therapies if desired.

Feet Treat
A treat for the feet. Feet work very hard and if they feel tired and achy it can affect our entire body. They are often overlooked and ignored but this treatment will revitalise, soften and rejuvenate them. Cleaning - soaking - buffing - massaging..............to bring your feet back to life and to relax your body and mind. It couldn't be simpler.

Tibetan Pindasweda
Grounded in ancient healing wisdom , this therapy uses heated compresses to bring about deep relaxation and relief from tension. Compresses are filled with salt and either essential oils or herbs are added to give a powerful purifying, detoxifying experience. It treats the mind, body and spirit as one and helps to encourage the body's capabilities of self healing.

As well as feeling very relaxed and soothed, the skin is softened and nourished. Each compress is individually prepared for the client's requirements so each treatment is unique. It is advisable to experience this as a whole body therapy which will take an hour and a half.

Stone Therapy
Heated, warm stones glide over the skin and their warmth radiates through the body. Relaxation is almost instant as the warmth begins to work on tension and aching muscles.

Feeling it is believing it.Stone therapy creates a balancing, meditative experience which leaves you soothed, grounded, refreshed, relaxed and invigorated.

There are many ways to experience the magic of the heated stones; the back - back and back of legs - feet and legs - hands and arms - or as a whole body treatment. This therapy will take an hour and a half or an hour depending on which options are chosen. Experiencing this as a whole body therapy is recommended as being the most therapeutic option.

Guided Meditation
The tradition of meditation dates back to the beginning of human history and it is said, the deeper the meditation, the deeper the healing. Body and the mind are interlinked and so how we are feeling mentally is reflected in the body, and vice versa.

The purpose of meditation is to channel our awareness into a more positive direction by concentrating on the inner self and by transforming the state of mind. To meditate is to turn inwards and this helps to quiet the mind and create feelings of stillness and calm which helps to restore peace and harmony in our lives.

Breath Work
We breathe. Our breath brings oxygen and other gases into the body and we breathe out carbon dioxide. This needs to happen every moment of our lives from the second we are born. Unfortunately the breath we breathe isn't always the fullest, most nourishing, most useful. It keeps us going is all we can say really, but then again, if we are healthy individuals and don't suffer from a breathing disorder, how much do we have to think about our breath or how we breathe?

Indian Head Massage
This technique has been used effectively for hundreds of years , and the benefits are now fully recognised in holistic therapy. It is a very gentle but firm massage of the head, neck and shoulders which can help to relieve tension in the upper body and the neck. It can relieve headaches and alleviate anxiety. It is also very beneficial for the scalp by increasing circulation to that area and as a result can improve the condition of the hair. This is a very relaxing yet powerful treatment.

About Mary I moved from west London to Lancashire to the village of Wray in the lovely Lune Valley, tucked away amongst the hills and dramatic landscape of this northern-most corner of the county. The village is close to the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, but being a little off the tourist route, Wray has remained a peaceful place to live. Living in such an unspoiled and ancient landscape feels very nurturing and inspires me in many ways. When my youngest of three children was a year old I became involved with the Dances of Universal Peace. I went along to the weekly sessions, which at that time seemed to attract therapists and body workers, and I began to get interested, especially in remedial massage. The reality of having a young family ruled out the possibility of training just at that time but the year before my youngest was to start school I began to explore the possibilities. This was 1994. I no longer felt qualified to work in administration I had before the children came along as computers had arrived and I had no idea how one of those worked! But this technological change proved to be the catalyst I needed. In 1995 my daughter started school and I began my practice ~ The Treatment Room ~ here in Wray. I qualified as a remedial massage therapist at the Northern College of Remedial Massage in Blackpool. A year later I began a two year diploma in person-centred counselling which I completed and then trained in Vibronic Homeopathy. Since then, as you can see from the menu, I have added other therapies and treatments. To enhance the service I can offer to my clients, I have also recently developed the 'Garden Retreat'. My aim is to support all those who seek a fuller, happier, healthier life by offering therapies, treatments, activities and services which build on each individual's own motivation, strength and energy for living. Apart from my work, I have many interests. I love my garden and gardening, my cats and reading. I enjoy textile crafts - knitting, designing and making rag rugs, cross stitch and spinning and most recently, felting. I also like to cook and always have a book on the go. If I had the time to do all these things it would be great. I attend a brilliant yoga class every week - endeavouring to do some yoga practice at home, and I do love a nice cup of tea! The children are all grown up now and making their own lives giving me time to develop my practice and Dance activities and to grow and develop in all aspects of my life and work.
