Welcome to Lindsay Evans Therapies

I am a full time Bowen Therapist, working for over four years from several clinics in Wokingham, Berkshire and offering a limited home visit service.

I believe that the human body has amazing resilience and given the right circumstances, it has the ability to adapt, regenerate and repair. And because of the effect that Bowen has on strengthening and balancing the body’s energy systems and in boosting natural repair processes, it is particularly effective in helping the body to get into the best possible situation to create the right circumstances to recover.

I have a passion for helping people to feel better and through the years have worked with all ages from newborn, to teenagers, to seniors and everyone in between. I constantly strive to hone and improve my skills and through ongoing training and practical experience, I have developed particular areas of specialism in working with:-
  • stress, anxiety and panic attacks
  • back pain and sciatica
  • the effects of whiplash
  • jaw, shoulder and pelvic misalignments (incl twisted pelvis, symphysis pubis dysfunction, frozen shoulder, TMJ dysfunction)
  • joint inflammation and pain (incl. arthritis)
  • hormonal imbalances
  • respiratory issues
  • chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia
  • digestive issues (eg. IBS, hiatus hernia, acid reflux, ulcerative colitis)

Over the past four years, my patients and I have enjoyed excellent and often life-changing results. Many, having tried many other conventional approaches and natural therapies; even those who have had unsuccessful surgery or been told that nothing more can be done, find great relief and/or progress with The Bowen Technique.

For some complete resolution is possible. For others Bowen can make a significant difference to the quality of life through effective pain, inflammation and stress management.

Bowen Therapy has a very different approach to many therapies as it is addressing the whole person and seeking to not only help to bring relief for the symptoms, but to address the root cause, which is often in a different area of the body.

Bowen’s small rolling movements are made over muscle, tendons and ligaments at specific points on the body where the most tension and stress tends to be held. These unusual moves trigger the brain to switch off the ‘fight or flight’ stress response and encourage the body to release tension and stress throughout, helping the body to physically and chemically rebalance.

Rather than ‘making’ the body change, Bowen ‘asks’ the body to recognize and make the changes it requires to release and repair, returning the body as close as possible to normal. Between each set of moves, there are rest periods for a few minutes, to allow the brain to absorb the information it has received and initiate the healing process.

As the body’s processes gradually normalise, the body’s natural repair processes and defence mechanisms are able to recover and get to work in focusing on addressing even long-standing complaints.

What to expect

Each appointment takes up to an hour. On your first visit, I will ask you some general questions about your health background and invite you to tell me about the symptoms that you are experiencing.

I usually treat you lying on a treatment couch, although Bowen can be adapted to treat seated when required. I often work directly on skin, but can work through light clothing if preferred.

Bowen moves are made in a number of short series with a short break between each series. During the ‘breaks’ I will leave the room for a couple of minutes to allow time for you to relax and the Bowen messages to pass through your system without distractions. Initially the majority of moves will be made on the bands of muscles either side of the spine and on points where the most tension and stress are held.

You may experience warmth, tingling or a feeling of heaviness, some people doze off – it is certainly very relaxing. Many people report feeling ‘lighter’, a deep sense of wellbeing and greater concentration and focus.

Some may experience instant changes at the time of the treatment. For most it is in the days that follow after a Bowen that their body in its own good time will start to make adjustments and changes.

Why try Bowen Therapy with Me?

There are of course no guarantees that my therapies will work for you. As with all therapies, drugs and medical procedures the Bowen Technique will not work for everyone and for every condition. However, it would not be an exaggeration to claim that more than 80% of my patients experience marked improvements within 1-3 treatments, and for many complete resolution is achieved.

I do encourage you to initially plan to have 3 treatments spaced approximately 1 week apart. Although not a magic number, many experience considerable change/improvement in this time and it is certainly sufficient to determine whether it is working for you and to plan a forward approach when required.

If you would like to discuss your situation to determine my experience and/or my view on how best to approach your individual situation please do drop me an email or call. I will always do my very best to give you frank and honest advice.

Testimonials

“Having suffered anxiety and headaches for a long time, I was advised to try Bowen. I did and was amazed at how good it was for me. I have since had further treatments for a bad back amongst other ailments and after one, maybe two treatments I’m as good as new. I couldn’t be any happier with my treatments.

“My first Bowen treatment was for stress. The effect was remarkable, so much so that colleagues remarked on how relaxed I looked. I also had a lot of pain in my right hip. Following regular Bowen treatments I have no pain at all.
J A, Crowthorne, Berkshire”

“I was recommended to try the Bowen Technique when I developed extremely painful sciatica. After a number of sessions, the relief was remarkable. Bowen has also been successful in treating pain in my right shoulder. I would recommend this treatment to anybody, which I have on a number of occasions.
R P, Bracknell, Berkshire”

“After suffering with back and neck pain for some months I tried Bowen. The first session greatly reduced the pain and my movement was very much improved. I was amazed at how quickly it had an effect.
H T, Wokingham, Berkshire”

“I have had, for several years, painful back, neck and shoulders following a car accident. I have also suffered painful, achy knees for many years. I have visited both physiotherapists and an osteopath with limited success. Now, having had several sessions of Bowen, I have far less pain in back, shoulder and neck and the knees are almost pain free making walking so much better.
I would recommend Bowen to anyone in pain. It causes no pain and reduces it substantially.

L K, Wokingham, Berkshire”

“I have suffered from pains from an injury to my back, which has been greatly eased by Bowen Therapy. I also suffer from joint stiffness to my right knee and thigh, which is well controlled by having regular top-ups. after normal medical methods failed (cortisone injection etc.). I find effectiveness of the Bowen Technique amazing and it is carried out in a very professional way by Lindsay.
