About Sam Morris

Sam Morris qualified at the College of Osteopaths with a first class BSc Honours. He is registered with the General Osteopathic Council and a member of the British Osteopathic Association.

The majority of Sam's patients are people with normal aches and pains from injuries - either old or new - although many patients don't know why the pain started in the first place. Like the majority of osteopaths, Sam has most experience in the examination and treatment of neck and back pain but he also regularly treats conditions elsewhere in the muscles and joints - particularly the shoulder, hip and knee. Sam has a special interest in sports injuries and he provides osteopathic treatment at Sheffield Wednesday Football Club.Samuel's is also a member of the Osteopathic Sports Care Association

Sam works hard to stay up to date with the latest research in all areas relevant to osteopathy so that he can integrate modern knowledge in his practice. He also tutors undergraduate students of osteopathy at the North Staffordshire Medical Institute.

When he's not at work, he enjoys spending as much time as possible with baby daughter, Caitlin.

He provides safe, comfortable treatment and rehabilitation for a wide range of musculoskeletal complaints. He is highly skilled in the treatment and management of many painful complaints. When he's not seeing his patients, he regularly treats professional footballers at Sheffield Wednesday FC and teaches osteopathy undergraduates at university level. Using biomechanical understanding, gentle examination and the expert osteopathic treatment he can provide relief from the a wide range of painful conditions

What do osteopaths do?

Although osteopaths treat many conditions, most people think of us as ‘back specialists’. Back pain is what many osteopaths treat a lot of the time. Osteopathic treatment does not target symptoms only but treats the parts of the body that have caused the symptoms. Osteopaths have a holistic approach and believe that your body will work well if it has good structural balance.

Imagine, for example, a car that has one of its front wheels not quite pointing straight. It may run well for a while, but after a few thousand miles, the tyre will wear out. You can apply this example to the human body. We use a wide range of techniques, including massage, joint mobilisation, lifestyle advice and postural correction. This breadth of approach allows us to focus on every patient’s precise needs. Osteopaths assess and treat people of any age from the elderly to the newborn and from pregnant women to sports people.

What is medical acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an increasingly popular form of treatment involving the insertion of fine needles into specific points of the body. The British Medical Acupuncture Society trains licensed healthcare practitioners to provide acupuncture alongside their mainstream practice.

Acupuncture stimulates the nerves in the skin and muscle and can produce a variety of effects. We know that it increases the body's release of natural painkillers in the spinal cord and brain. This modifies the way pain signals are processed. However, acupuncture also appears to have a beneficial effect on health. Patients often notice an improved sense of well-being after treatment.

Sam will assess each patient's case and treatment will be tailored to the individual. Sam understands that not everyone is comfortable with needles, so let him know if you'd rather avoid this form of treatment.
