About Julia

Julia Quick LicAc MBAcC

I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council, the UK 's main regulatory body for the practice of traditional acupuncture, and am also certified in Internal Family Systems Therapy. I have been working as an acupuncturist / therapist for 20 years.

I use the two most commonly practiced types of acupuncture: Five Element and 8 Principals (Traditional Chinese Medicine). 5 Element Acupuncture first inspired me, through its deep contact with nature and very direct connection between body and mind. Later I studied to integrate this approach with the 8 principal model as it had proved to be extremely effective in releasing stubborn symptoms. Recently I have begun a study of Japanese Acupuncture which is a very gentle approach with profound effects. Acupuncture helps develop an ability to “tune in” to the underlying natural orders in our bodies and emotions to find health, harmony and aliveness.

I discovered a discipline which combines love of nature with great insight into the complexity of human behaviour and experience. For many years I worked as an acupuncturist and later as Clinical Supervisor at The Core Trust - a day programme for the treatment of addiction where, working together with other Therapists it was wonderful to see transformation and hope restored. This work led me to further investigate the interrelationship between mind and body. As a result my practice is informed by ongoing further training not only in acupuncture but other areas that include:
  • Meditation: Helps still the mind and opens a space for change. I attend a minimum of one Buddhist Retreat each year finding that these intense periods of practice nourish me profoundly
  • Zero Balancing a gentle body work that releases pockets of tension and leaves you feeling very centered, grounded and “balanced” – more able to integrate changes in your life.
  • Psychology: Object Relations & Internal Family Systems Therapy: which have given me an understanding of how we are often stuck with outmoded patterns of behaviour and thinking and given me insight into ways of addressing these blocks. I was a member of the Ridwan School for 7 years and regularly use practically techniques and understandings I gained there.
  • Nutrition : Simple dietary changes can make a huge difference to our energy flow and well being.

My Services

Acupuncture

One of he foundations of Traditional Chinese Medicine is an understanding of energy (known as Chee or Qi), and the way it moves, changes and grows and diminishes.

This energy is moved and encouraged into balance through contact with points on channels (meridians), which flow over the surface of the body and percolate through to every part of our being.

Acupuncture is seen more and more as complementary to Western Medicine and is often prescribed as an adjunct to traditional treatments. I use both the Five Element and Eight Principal models of acupuncture within my practice.

Zero Balancing

Zero Balancing sessions are stand-alone treatments or a series builds profoundly. This therapy is practiced through clothes, no undressing required.

It is gentle to receive but potentially powerful in effect, capable of helping a wide range of people at many different levels. The held pressure points and stretches are focused on bones and joints creating repeated points of stillness around which the body can relax and reorganise.

These still points invite the release of tension, and offer the opportunity to let go of unease and pain. In this way problems may be resolved and symptoms relieved taking the person into a state of relaxation that refreshes the whole being and can give the experience of a deep sense of wellbeing and unity.
