Sometimes the barriers and hurdles life throws at you can be overwhelming and hard to break through.

Having someone to talk to whilst offering you the support and advice you need to overcome your problems can help you find the path to positive and healthy well being.

My name is Jo Allen and I am an integrative counsellor. My aim is to make counselling accessible for everyone.

There are many barriers for clients wanting counselling; financial, physical, emotional and intellectual amongst others. I aim to provide an environment and the tools to help you explore your emotions and enable you to understand and change the way you're feeling.

Counselling and Psychotherapy

Although I work with many different psychological issues, I specialise in disability.

Due to personal experience with spinal muscular atrophy, I have an insight into disability which some counsellors may not have. I am a firm believer and advocate of full inclusion in society and can provide you with the empathy, understanding and honesty you need to get through your issues.

I have previously worked in various fields of disability including schools and centres of learning for both children and adults with special needs. I currently work in a surgery with a high population of disabled clients and people with MS.

Disability can effect people in many different ways:
  • Body image - own and others acceptance of looking different, hidden disabilities
  • Relationships - fears around attracting a partner, maintaining a relationship with a new disability
  • Family - acceptance, day to day living
  • Sex - different ways of being sexually active, not being sexually active
  • Employment - having to change jobs, never being able to work
  • Finance - living on benefits, additional living costs, compensation
  • Sexuality - same sex relationships, gender change
  • Wellbeing - depression, mood swings

Although my specialism is disability, I also work with a range of other issues:
  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Mood swings
  • Anger
  • Self esteem
  • Body image
  • Bereavement

Sessions are £30 for individuals and £45 for couples. Payment is due at the beginning of each session by cash or cheque. Some concessions are available.

My Qualifications and Experience:
  • Higher National Diploma in Counselling
  • Level 4 Certificate in Motivational Therapeutic Interventions
  • Level 3 Certificate in Working with Post Traumatic Stress
  • Level 2 Music, Creativity and Healing Workshop
  • Experience working in a GP Practice
  • Introduction to Understanding your Eating Programme
  • Private practice

Whatever your situation, please do contact me. The road to good mental health takes dedication, hard work, education and change. Why don't you begin that journey now?
