Welcome to JeanYoung1to1

Having always been fascinated by the way bodies move, I have taught in the Fitness sector since 1994, initially as a dance teacher and Fitness Instructor but later as a Pilates and Yoga teacher. As fitness studios pushed for larger and larger classes I became increasingly frustrated by the system and decided to teach privately. I now teach one-to-one or micro classes which enables me to take a much more appropriate hands-on, holisitc approach.

Testimonials
I have known Jean Young for over 10 years when we both attended Pilates Classes at Towcester Leisure Centre. Jean soon decided to train as a teacher and I have attended her classes continuously ever since. She has a professional approach but always retains a sense of humour and encourages each member of her class to push themselves that little bit further, getting the best out of each individual whatever their level and ability. As she instructs, Jean talks through the various muscles and explains the benefits of each exercise and is always at hand to correct a position or help someone who has a particular problem or disability. Introducing variety into her classes means they are never repetitive and the result is a full body work-out. I have certainly felt the benefit. I wish Jean well with her new venture and will miss her very much.

I have been learning Pilates with Jean on a 1 to 1 basis for just over a year. I started as an unconfident beginner with a troublesome back. I just don’t believe the amount of progress I have made. This is down to my confidence in Jean’s expertise – her knowledge of Pilates, anatomt and her teaching style. The latter is skilled and consistently encouraging while missing nothing!

- Jenny Ormond, 2011

Jean has directed a fitness class at St Rumbold’s Court over the last eighteen months. During that time she has led the class, which consists of retired persons, with great professionalism and good humour. We will miss her greatly and wish her every happiness in her new life.. – From the ladies of St Rubmbold’s who are breathing well and concentrating from the tips f their toes to the crown of the head!.

About Me

I am a STOTT PILATES® Certified Instructor. Using Matwork, Reformer and small equipment to help develop strength, flexibility, endurance and posture without building bulk or stressing joints. STOTT PILATES® is ideal for everyone and will leave you looking toned, feeling revitalised and moving with ease. I agree with their slogan: intelligent exercise, profound results®.

My particular interest is in remedial and back care because these issues are often not addressed in large classes. Doctors often send injured patients to pilates classes because it’s the best form of exercise for them, but they don’t get the instruction or attention required to heal. One-to-one and micro-classes allow me to provide a more personalised approach to individual requirements in a safe, non-competitive atmosphere.

I am also a British Wheel of Yoga accredited teacher and use my training in the same vein, specialising in a combination of Hatha and slow flowing vinyassa style to create a moving meditation, releasing stress and calming the mind whilst strengthening and energising the body.

I also teach Yoga and Pilates for people living with Cancer. 1to1 sessions aim to support the healing process through simple yoga and pilates and Tripudio practices that are appropriate, effective and enjoyable. These practices are tailored to inidividulal needs and incorporate movement, breathing exercises, relaxation and meditation where appropriate. These sessons are also suitable for people living with long-term health issues like MS or ME.
