About Janice Walker Physiotherapist

My practice first opened in 1995, and I have been serving Sale and surrounding areas ever since.

Prior to working for myself I worked within the NHS from 1981-2002 after undergoing a 3 year diploma now degree course, followed by several post graduate studies in massage, mobilisation techniques, stroke rehabilitation, acupuncture and exercise regimes.

I offer a full service 6 days a week, and can also deliver advice over the phone.

WHAT IS PHYSIOTHERAPY?

Physiotherapy is the treatment of injury and disease by natural means;that means without using drugs.

People of all ages and with a wide range of conditions or injuries can benefit from physiotherapy.

As a Chartered physiotherapist I work in close association with GPs and consultants having worked within the NHS for 20+ years as well as within several private practices within the Manchester and Cheshire area.

Chartered physiotherapists are bound by a strict professional and ethical code.

WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture is one of the oldest recorded forms of medicine having been used for over 3,000 years in China.

Modern science has shown that acupuncture stimulates the brain to produce natural pain relieving chemicals, endorphins. These assist the body to heal itself and give pain relief. The traditional view is that Qi (Ki,energy) flows round the body in channels, called meridiens.

If the Oi is flowing freely, the body is in a healthy state. If there is a problem, energy stagnates.

The stimulation of appropriate acupuncture points frees this stagnation.

Research has shown that most people gain relief from pain with acupuncture. It can be used alone or in combination with other therapies or exercise regimes.

The effects of acupuncture are cumulative, with pain relief building up as treatment progresses. Some people are particularly good responders while others may see little benefit until they have had a few treatments;this is more likely with a chronic condition.Occasionally, the condition may become slightly worse at first-commonly called a healing reaction. This is not a bad sign as it usually means the condition will respond.

CONDITIONS WHICH MAY BE HELPED BY ACUPUNCTURE

  • acute/chronic injuries

  • arthritis and rheumatism

  • low back and neck pain

  • breathing dificulties:hayfever,asthma,bronchitis

  • bladder and bowel problems
