About Jane
Counselling Experience
In 1991 I joined Relate where my interest in counselling and relationships became my passion: whether it is helping people to improve their relationship to themselves or their and Graduate Certificate Foundation in Couple Counselling. I started my private practice in 1999. relationships with others, this is where my specialism lies.

I worked at Relate part-time for 16 years delivering couple counselling, family counselling, training and sex therapy. I taught on the Relate Post Graduate Diploma in Couple Therapy for the University of East London;

Background
The first eleven years of my career were spent in secretarial work. Following 5 years working for a Director within Rank Xerox I was promoted into the field of export control. I had full responsibility to ensure that the manufacturing sites and the distribution functions based across Europe complied with all export control regulations. I achieved this by writing and implementing procedures, ensuring processes were in place, conducting management and staff training and carrying our regular compliance reviews.

Leaving Rank Xerox in 1985 I continued this work on a consultancy basis, eventually auditing and handing over the remainder of the role to Rank Xerox line management. I joined Chamberlains Personnel Services in 1988 as the Business Manager responsible for managing 150 staff employed on clients’ premises, and all associated personnel and administration functions. Turnover was taken to £1.5M pa and profitability was increased from 5% to 10% of turnover.

Having been made redundant from Chamberlains in 1991, I founded JMPS where drawing on my long experience in industry and commerce I specialise in managing Career + Redundancy Counselling services for Corporate clients. These overlapping careers of business manager, trainer and counsellor continue to give me a breadth of expertise and understanding to draw on in my work.

Why might I need Counselling?

The stresses and strains of everyday life, personal viewpoints and change in general will cause tensions in all relationships at some time, particularly with partners in adult couple relationships and with work colleagues. Statistically, however, the most significant areas of distress for employees who consult workplace counsellors are not work but family related, in particular to marital and sexual partnership relationships. Anxiety engendered by disappointment, disillusionment, anger and powerlessness in the face of a disintegrating love relationship or the collapse of family stability has a direct impact on a worker’s performance. They may well lack enthusiasm, commitment and energy which they had previously displayed. Others may manage a high level of work performance for some time by splitting the personal and professional, the home and the workplace but this does not resolve their inner turmoil and sense of anguished bewilderment.

What are the benefits of counselling?

Individuals find that counselling:
  • Facilitates exploration of personal difficulties, choices and making of realistic decisions in order to work towards living in a more satisfying and resourceful way

  • Provides skilled, constructive support

  • Helps individuals to cope with stress

  • Improves health, morale and communication

  • Increases ability to work efficiently

  • Promotes personal creativity and insight

  • Maximises effectiveness in dealing with personal and relationship issues

  • Helps individuals to recognise behaviour patterns in themselves and others

  • Allows individuals to regain personal control

  • Helps couples and families to make changes in their relationships

Further Information

Psycho Sexual Therapy

Your sexual problem may have been like it for ages or it might be something that's developed after a previously good sex life. It might include problems with erections, loss of desire, inability to have sexual intercourse, orgasm difficulties, different sexual expectations, sexual addiction, physical disabilities or the impact of sexual abuse as a child. You may be single or in a relationship; gay, straight or bisexual; teenager, middle aged or in your 70s.

If you have a partner who won't come with you to therapy you may still find that a few sessions on your own can be helpful. Sex therapy is individually tailored for each client or couple. Simple tasks are suggested for you to do in the privacy of your own home and which help you overcome your difficulties and rediscover the pleasure of a good physical relationship.
