I am a counsellor/psychotherapist who has been in private practice for over fifteen years, seeing individuals and couples for a range of personal issues.These include relationship difficulties, family issues, and difficulties with stress and work. I also see people with problems with anger, people feeling low and those with doubts about self and self-worth. I try to help people explore the difficulties in encountered in living, and, where appropriate, to find better ways of coping. Sometimes people simply welcome the opportunity to express and reflect on their difficulties in a supportive context, which may unfortunately be lacking from other areas of their lives. I see clients for varying lengths of time according to need - this can range from short-term work of between one and a few sessions in duration to seeing clients for longer periods of time. Frequency of sessions is open to discussion, but is most commonlyweekly or fortnightly.
Qualifications/background: I have a first degree in psychology and philosophy (Warwick University) and a master's degree in counselling in psychotherapy (Regent's College London/Antioch University, Ohio).
My approach to counselling is predominantly drawn from humanistic, existential and client centred approaches - the primary focus is on a person's current issues in living, but with scope for illuminating these by reference to their experience of life.
Experience: I have been seeing clients for nearly twenty years - as well as private practice I have worked for two young people's centres (age range 11-26) both in paid and voluntary capacities. I also provide short term counselling for a number of schemes which exist to provide access to counselling for the employees of a number of major employers.
Costs: Normally £35 per one-hour session for individuals, or £45 per one and a quarter hour session (couples).
Ethics and Confidentiality: I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and follow their code of ethics and confidentiality.
Availability: I work weekdays (Monday to Friday) and weekday evenings up until a latest start time of 9pm. Weekend sessions may sometimes be available. It is usually possible to make an arrangement for an appointment without the need for there to be any significant waiting period or delay.
Location: I am based in West Knighton, Leicester, (no 1 Northdene Road, postcode LE2 6FJ) a location which is approximately two miles south of Leicester city centre, very close to the Welford Road, and also to Aberdale Road. The Clarendon Park and Stoneygate areas of Leicester are adjacent. I work from home. Unrestricted parking is readily available at all times. Bus numbers 44 and 44A, which take about 15 minutes from Leicester railway station, run within a few yards - buses 47,48,49, 49A and 49B also run from the city centre along Welford Road. See map below. Disabled access - counselling takes place in a ground floor room with no flights of steps involved - at present however I cannot offer ground floor toilet facilities.
