Welcome to Jacqueline Hendy Counselling

Welcome, my name is Jacqueline Hendy and I am a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor, Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor with over 23 years of experience located just outside Bournemouth in Dorset.

If you’re thinking about finding some counselling for yourself or someone close to you, you’ve come to the right place. Often it can be helpful to talk in confidence to somebody other than family or friends.

About

Finding the right therapist who can work alongside you can be a daunting and confusing process. As a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist and a BACP Senior Accredited Clinical Supervisor, I have over 23 years experience gained from working with people from all walks of life. This experience has taught me that there is not a single template for how to be in this world.

I incorporate a number of different schools of thought into my practice, including integrative counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and believe that this increases my ability to address my clients’ individual needs. I continue to develop my skills by training and attending CPD (Continuing Professional Development) workshops and have recently trained in the Use of Mindfulness. In addition to private practice, I have worked as a counsellor in Schools, FE Colleges, GP Surgeries and as part of a Multi Disciplinary Team within the NHS.

What I Offer

I believe that our emotional and psychological health has a significant impact on the quality of our lives, and our potential for living the life that we desire.

Why counselling?

The reasons people come for counselling are numerous. You may find that you have always functioned perfectly well but that the impact of a one-off event has de-stabilised your sense of who you are and your usual coping mechanisms are stretched to breaking point. Sometimes we are simply feeling ‘stuck’ in negative behavioural patterns and want and need something to change but are not sure how.
Short term and long term counselling

The short term work is for clients who wish to work in a very focused way and will usually require between 6-10 sessions. Sometimes clients may use this as a taster to see if they wish to embark on longer term work.

Longer term therapy allows us to address issues that are deeper seated in our personal process and allows the client to become aware of how they can make some adjustments to the way they interact with the rest of the world in order to live a more satisfied and fulfilled life.

My Practice

Counselling

My clients often find it easier to talk to a counsellor rather than their family or close friends about what is troubling them. Family and friends are extremely important but sometimes they can become too upset or too involved. Counselling provides time and space for you to talk through your issues with an impartial and empathic listener who is experienced and trained.

This environment can help you to offload and explore your feelings, gain new awareness and investigate and consider different choices. It is not about giving advice or telling you what to do but enabling you to find your own way forward and to help you better understand yourself.

People will often turn to counselling at particular times in their lives, perhaps when something has happened which has undermined their sense of who they are. This can cause them to question their understanding of the world and what life is about, or to re-examine their values, goals and motivation for life and where they want to be.

Psychotherapy

This longer term work allows us to address issues that are deeper seated in our personal process and allows the client to become aware of how they may wish to make some adjustments to the way they interact with the rest of the world in order to live a more satisfied and fulfilled life.

Psychotherapy aims to help you understand more about you and your relationships and can help you to get to know yourself better, improve your relationships and get more out of life. It can be especially useful in helping people with long term or recurring problems get to the root of their difficulties. This type of therapy is open ended with regular reviews.

Supervision

As a counsellor and psychotherapist I work from an integrative framework and believe that it is the quality of the relationship alongside the skill of the counsellor which allows change to happen in clients. For this reason the relationship is also important in Supervision and so is a safe place where a counsellor or psychotherapist can share and reflect on their work. The quality of the supervisory relationship should enable a supervisee to reflect on both the content and the process of their work, to be proactive rather than reactive and to plan and utilise personal and professional resources to support clinical work with clients.

Supervision offers the opportunity to be validated and supported both as a person and as a therapist and provides space to ensure that you are not left to carry unnecessary difficulties, problems and projections alone. My aim is for supervisees to leave a session feeling encouraged, enabled and energised with new ideas for their work with clients.

As a Senior Accredited Supervisor and Counsellor and Psychotherapist I am bound by the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists Code of Ethics and work within the Guidelines of Good Practice Framework.
