Make Positive Changes Permanently

Welcome to Hull Hypnotherapy
Hello, welcome and thank you for visiting. You have reached the website of Jane Sargeson Dip Hyp. RMN, Clinical Hypnotherapist.

If the word 'hypnosis' conjures up images of a guy in a top hat, swinging a metal watch as he drones on at you in a monotonous voice then the odds are that you're going to be pretty relieved when you take that first step and get in touch.

Hypnotherapy isn't about sinister magicians and parlour tricks; it's about taking charge of your own life and getting what you want out of it. Perhaps you want to stop smoking, lose weight, deal with anxiety, sleep problems or panic? Hypnotism can help you do that.

Thoughts can make you feel happy, sad, anxious, panicky, etc. The subconscious mind is highly receptive from birth. We remember the feelings created by an event. Over time people mature and want to live happy fulfilled lives but some times the feelings have a negative effect on our day to day lives holding us back from having the life we deserve.

I can help you to make positive changes quickly and permanently. Treatment is tailored to the needs of each individual client. All clients receive a confidential friendly and professional service at all times. My aim is to guide you through therapy fast and effectively.

What is Hypnosis?
It is a perfectly natural occurring state of mind. We go into a hypnotic state many times during the day. This can happen when you are driving, day dreaming and just before you go to sleep. You are always aware and will know what is being said to you at all times.

Hypnosis occurs when awareness moves from the conscious to the subconscious part of the mind. The subconscious part of the mind works to regulate our breathing, body temperature and many other things automatically and without us needing to tell it to. The subconscious part of the mind also generates and holds on to our thoughts and feelings. Sometimes these feelings can be harmful to us, have a negative effect on our day to day happiness and can stop us moving forward. I can help you to make positive changes quickly and permanently.

What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy uses the power of the mind to help heal physical as well as emotional problems. It can help uncover the underlying emotional and psychological causes to many ailments. It differs from hypnosis in that there is more interaction between the client and therapist, allowing the client to discover more about the emotional background to his or her current problems.

Hypnosis is more suggestive than therapeutic. There is no doubt that our minds and bodies work together, when one is under stress, the other suffers. We have all experienced it - blushing when embarrassed, going pale with shock, having sweaty palms when nervous. These are just small instances of the way in which our minds can affect our bodies. Medical literature is now full of studies confirming that many diseases are psycho-somatic (caused in the mind) or stress-related. Some doctors have estimated that as many as 75% of modern disorders are actually induced through stress. Fortunately the power of the mind has also been shown to be a primary factor in healing many diseases, even cancer. It is therefore important in any physical or emotional health problem not to overlook hypnotherapy on the road back to health.

Myths
People often have a fear that being hypnotised will make them lose control, tell the therapist all of their secrets and have their minds controlled. This is not the case. Many people base their fears about hypnotism on what they have seen on a stage act. Stage acts can help fuel these myths, which discourages people from getting help from a hypnotherapist.

When under hypnosis you are not under the therapists control and will not reveal your innermost secrets. You are aware of what is being said and where you are. Hypnosis is not something imposed on people, but something they do for themselves. A Hypnotherapist simply serves as a facilitator to guide you through you.

What can be treated with Hypnotherapy?
It would not possible to list every condition that can respond to treatment, but here are a few examples. The first consultation lasts around an hour and is free of charge. This is in total confidence with no obligation to further treatment.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a complicated mental disorder which is hard to deal with. However hypnotherapy has been regarded as one of the most efficient methods for treating this problem. Several medical experts have confirmed on the effects of hypnosis treatments for curing PTSD. In fact hypnosis is a successful method for dealing different traumatic after effects.

Anxiety/ Panic Attacks
Though anxiety is common in human life, if it takes a serious turn it affects negatively, seriously harming the person making him/her lose all control over his/ her own behavioural pattern. It may even lead to aggressiveness and obsessive compulsive disorder, phobia, panic or even depression etc.

Tics/ Stammer
Tics are common disorder with people who suffer extremely from muscle contraction. These special muscles are present the facial part of your body. The worst part is that contraction disorders are chronic in nature. Some of the major features of muscle contraction are wrinkling of nose, grimacing structure of the face, excessive eye blinking and more. Stuttering Hypnotherapy can help you undo the negative thoughts that are creating your problem, thereby allowing you to speak confidently and clearly.

Fear or Phobia
In Clinical Hypnotherapy we use behavioural approaches such as desensitisation whilst in the relaxing trance state to effectively and progressively extinguish the anxiety caused by the fear invoking situation.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
In February 2008 the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE), which gives guidance to the NHS on effective treatments, published guidance for GPs and consultants saying there was good evidence that hypnotherapy was an effective IBS treatment and that it could be recommended for chronic IBS.

Sleep
Excess tension in the skeletal muscles increases the amount of activity across the whole nervous system - including the amount and "speed" or "volume" of our thinking. By learning how to relax the muscles directly and deeply - and retraining our body to a more relaxed state we can fall asleep quickly, stay asleep and awake refreshed.

Confidence/ Self Esteem
In hypnotherapy the treatment given for low confidence is called "ego-strengthening" - and generally this is the first treatment every client receives. Almost every condition benefits from initial work on building confidence - since the sense of self-belief in our abilities influences how we think, feel, motivate ourselves and behave.

Smoking
Get the control back in your life be free. Often it only takes one session. 'Hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking, according to the largest ever scientific comparison of ways of breaking the habit.' - New Scientist v136

Addictions
Do you have some thing in your life that you want to change? Something that you do not control but it controls you. A very similar programme to the Smoking Cessation programme this treatment programme has worked effectively with many clients who have drinking habits or drug habits that they wish to change.

Guilt, anger and rejection can really hold you back, but once you let them go, you'll be able to get on with your life and feel much more calm, relaxed and peacefully in control.

Sexual Problems
Most sexual problems can actually be treated very easily and effectively using hypnotherapy, because the problems usually stem from within your mind first of all, which then has a physical effect on your body.

Depression
If you feel depressed or have been suffering with depression for some time hypnotherapy can be extremely effective for getting right to the very root cause of your problem and releasing you from it.
