About Us

We have been in existence since 2006. Our primary purpose was to provide counselling for individuals and couples. During this time we have helped hundreds of people from all walks of life and from all over South Central Scotland. We continue to be one of West Lothian’s foremost private counselling agencies.

In 2009 we extended our provision to include programmes of support for those affected by dyslexia and autism. We have a friendly, professional team with experience of working across a variety of disciplines including health, education and the private sector. Each member carries the qualifications and experience necessary to provide a service of the highest standard. We work within the guidelines laid down by national regulating bodies.

We have premises in Kirkton Campus at the south end of Livingston.

Please feel free to explore our site. If you would like to discuss ways in which we might be able to help you please call and arrange a free consultation.

The Hopesprings counselling team

At Hopesprings we provide counselling for individuals and couples. Each member of our team is fully qualified, licensed to practise, working within the code of ethics and guidelines laid down by national governing bodies and experienced in working with a full range of issues.

The first consultation is free; thereafter we charge a fee of £35.00 per session for individuals and £50.00 for couples. Contact us for further details.

You may be understandably cautious about engaging in counselling but you can be assured of a professional, confidential and sensitive service that will support and guide you during a process of personal growth and change.

Autism Support

Autism, as a condition was first recognised by Leo Kanner in the 1940s. As a result of this work autism is now thought to affect as many as 45,000 people in Scotland.

Great strides forward have taken place since Kanner’s work was published and we now understand the nature of autism and aspergers better than at any time in the past.

Autism affects the way that people communicate, relate to one another and understand the everyday world. People with aspergers syndrome show the same characteristics but exhibit average or above average levels of intelligence and often have better developed communication skills.

What we offer

Counselling and Advice

Autism and aspergers are lifelong conditions and often have a profound effect on the lives of not only those on the ‘spectrum’ but also their families.

Hopesprings offers a counselling and advice service designed to support those struggling to cope with the effects of living with or caring for someone with autism or aspergers.

The Hopespring ASD Carers Support Group

We operate a support group for carers and parents of people with autism and aspergers. Membership of the Hopesprings Support Group entitles you to attend (free of charge) our regular meetings where you will have a chance to network with other group members and engage in discussions and workshops on ASD. In addition to this you will have access to our team of experts for informal advice on matters of concern relating to ASD and you will be added to our mailing list, we will keep you up to date with current trends and developments.
We also run periodic workshops and presentations with invited, nationally recognised experts and practitioners in the field of autism and aspergers. Members of the support group will be entitled to prioritised access to these events at discounted prices.

Please contact us for membership details

Fees

Support group membership – £50.00 per annum

Counselling & advice – Informal advice is usually given free of charge to members of the support group. Formal counselling and advice sessions are charged at £35.00 per 1 hour session.

Dyslexia Support

What is dyslexia?

Definitions of dyslexia vary but most people agree that someone with dyslexic type symptoms experience difficulties with their learning which often affect reading, writing, spelling and organisation.

They are sometimes described as ‘cognitive processing difficulties’.

Difficulties of a dyslexic nature can often be a barrier to a young person’s learning. They often persist into adulthood and may result in low levels of self-esteem and confidence.

Associated difficulties with abilities connected to auditory processing, language and short-term memory may also be present.

What we offer

Assessment

Assessment can be a complex and time-consuming process. This can be carried out at a young person’s school free of charge however there may be a considerable waiting time.
We have an assessment team led by educational psychologists and teachers all of whom have extensive experience in working with young people and adults.

At Hopesprings an initial assessment will typically be completed within a couple of weeks. This assessment will include screening for signs of dyslexia, reading-age, levels of comprehension and spelling abilities.

Depending on our findings there may be a need for further testing for phonological difficulties and speech and language problems.

Fees are listed below.

Tutoring
Once an assessment has been completed many people decide to engage in a programme of tutoring. Although dyslexic problems persist into adulthood personal tutoring can improve reading, writing and spelling levels and provide the space and time for young people and adults to gain significantly in confidence and motivation.

At Hopesprings our tutors will help to develop individually tailored programmes that can help to re-ignite the confidence and motivation that are key to good learning.

Fees are listed below.

We also run periodic workshops and events where we invite experts from across the country to speak on and answer questions related to dyslexic type difficulties. As a member of the support group you’ll have prioritised access at discounted prices to these workshops and events.
