Aching shoulders? Stressed? Muscular problems? Just want to chill out?

Holistix Massage can help. We provide massage therapy treatments tailored to your individual needs.

You may be after some purely relaxing 'me' time and a soothing massage or aromatherapy session, a remedial massage that will tackle all that stubborn tension you've been wanting to get rid of for ages or something in between.

A free consultation before your first treatment will help determine exactly what you would like from your session. Shorter back, neck and shoulder treatments are available, which are perfect for the office or at an event. Please see the services page for more details on all of the above.

Holistix Massage also offers home visits or, alternatively you can visit the luxury treatment room, which is based in a quiet road in Luton, Bedfordshire.

SERVICES

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage.

The five basic strokes are effleurage (light touch), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction, and vibration.

Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients. The development of Swedish massage is credited to Per Henrik Ling though the Dutch practitioner Johan Georg Mezger adopted the French names to denote the basic strokes.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a true holistic therapy as the aim is to treat the whole of the person. This works by restoring a balance between mind, body and spirit.

The use of essential oils allows the purest properties of plants in their most concentrated form to help improve physical and emotional well-being. Each oil has a different therapeutic property. By selecting the most appropriate oils, a therapist can create a massage blend that can benefit various conditions throughout the body.

An aromatherapy massage is the best way for these essential oils to be administered and uses uplifting or relaxing fragrances.

Remedial Massage
(Muscle energy technique, myofascial release and neuromuscular therapy)

Muscle energy technique is used in physical therapy to treat somatic dysfunction presenting as loss of range of motion secondary to muscular inhibition. There are several distinct techniques which may be called muscle energy techniques including reciprocal inhibition, and post-isometric relaxation.

Myofascial release refers to the manual massage technique for stretching the fascia and releasing bonds between fascia, integument, and muscles with the goal of eliminating pain, increasing range of motion and equilibrioception. Myofascial release usually involves applying shear compression or tension in various directions, or by skin rolling.

Neuromuscular therapy (NMT) is distinguished from other types of massage in that a quasi-static pressure is applied to the skin with the aim of stimulating specific areas of skeletal muscle. Often these areas of muscle are myofascial trigger points.
