SERVICES

Welcome to Herts Counsellors

You will find us sympathetic and understanding; you will never be judged, regardless of what you bring to the counselling session. Ours is a confidential service.

We gauge each person’s needs on an individual basis. We then offer advice on the ‘how’ and ‘who’ – which approach would be best suited to support the work, and who would be best placed to explore your problems. We practise a client-focused method and feel it is of the utmost importance that clients are allocated a counsellor they feel comfortable and secure with, and with whom they will be able to build a good, working, therapeutic relationship.

Although our counsellors are qualified in different core approaches to counselling, we believe it is the client that determines how the counsellor approaches the work. Counselling will be tailored to your personality and particular needs.

Once you have a therapist you feel you can engage with, this particular therapist will remain your counsellor until you feel the time is right for you to leave.

How we can help...

Finding the right approach

We are happy to arrange an assessment session that will give you guidance on how to move forward with us or other agencies or therapists. The assessment will take 50 minutes. Some of this time
will be spent filling out the assessment paperwork, the remainder of the time will involve a discussion about what is troubling you. You will never be pushed into discussing anything you are not happy to
talk about.

Short-term counselling

During your assessment we can discuss whether short-term counselling is appropriate for your needs. Short-term counselling is particularly effective at dealing with issues such as bereavement, divorce, mild depression, job loss, marital or sexual problems. If we decide short-term counselling is the way forward for you, it would not preclude you from going on to long-term counselling if you wished to do so.

Long-term counselling

This is more suited to people with drug or alcohol problems. It could also be for issues that have been unresolved for several years, like severe depression, rape/sexual abuse, emotional abuse, PTSD (trauma), severe mental health problems, or people with complex or multiple issues.
