Heather Mountney at Nu U Nutrition

As a Nutritional Therapist (Dip AONT) (Dip ONT) in Nottingham and the East Midlands. l regularly feature on BBC Radio Nottingham offering local people health advice (see BBC Radio Nottingham Features page). I provide one to one consultations as well as give advice to cancer rehabilitation groups, gyms and boot camps and I present health advice to local businesses, charities and networks. l am also a fully registered member of the British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy.

Having worked in health care marketing for over 20 years, 15 of them with Boots Healthcare International, I became very interested in how so many people were using over the counter remedies to try to overcome chronic conditions such as irritabie bowel syndrome, indigestion and weight control problems. But in many cases the products being used would not treat the underlying condition and this is why I have switched to doing just that.

During my consultations I routinely use a very accurate and effective system that allows me to quickly assess your level of fitness, fat to muscle ratio, cellular function and hydration.(see Body Composition Analysis). These are important health risk markers which give me a good basis on which to help you achieve your goals. I also offer the unique 6 to 12 week programme to help reverse chronic health conditions or weight problems.

I am available for consultations at Head2Toe in West Bridgford just call 0115 9455545 to make an appointment or contact me direct for a free no obligation chat or send me an e-mail. You can also follow me on Facebook and Twitter, to keep updated on current topics and articles. For further information on any modalities I work with, please view my website.

What is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional Therapy at Nu U Nutrition, will provide you with a plan that is based on a good diet, supplementation and lifestyle changes to help you achieve optimum health and wellbeing.

We help to prevent or minimize the progression of disease and encourage you to achieve your goals in a sustained and healthy way.

The beauty of this approach is that we see everyone as an individual who has differing needs and reasons for ill health or disease progression and ultimately different ways of dealing with them.

Using what we term as a ‘functional’ approach to assessing each person, it means that we look carefully at the ‘why’ of every condition and problem and seek to resolve all or most of these to help you to optimise your long term health and wellbeing.

Food for life – lifestyle changing programmes

Food for Life is a nutritional therapy based lifestyle change programme that uses body composition assessments and health and well-being analyses to allow tailored diet plans and exercise and relaxation plans to be devised. The overall aim is to reverse chronic health problems and /or reduce weight healthily and permanently.

The Food for Life programme helps the nutritional therapist to assess cell function and overall health, using a number of accurate riskmarkers , such as fat composition, active tissue and cellular fluid levels. What they also do is give the patient a reference point from which health improvements can be made. A graphical representation of the markers is provided for the patient. Some maybe experiencing the effects of chronic disease states, such as type 2 diabetes, cardio vascular disease, gall stones, osteoarthritis, metabolic syndrome and others and may show significant disturbances in two of the risk markers: fluid distribution and body mass.

After following the Food For Life programme for 12 weeks, research has shown that all of the health risks, such as weight gain, cholesterol, cardio vascular risk were significantly lowered and health improved.

Body Composition Analysis

What is Body Composition Analysis?

The Body Composition Analysis is a highly accurate tool for measuring some key health risk factors. and includes:

Fat Mass: This measures how much fat you have and whether your levels are within the optimum range for good health.

Active Tissue Mass: This includes your lean muscle mass which should be significantly greater than your fat mass for good health.

Quality and quantity of cellular function, which helps the nutritonal therapist to assess your overall tissue health which gives an indication of your overall health.

Fluid levels are measured in terms of intra cellular fluid and extra cellular fluid, both of which help to indicate cellular function and hydration levels overall.

Choose a one off assessment or the full Food for Life 12 week programme.

The Food for Life programme includes a Body Composition Assessment at each visit because it allows the nutritional therapist and patient to see clearly what progress is being made to weight loss and the overall health risk markers. This is a very motivating way of ensuring compliance with the programme.

The programme can be tailored to individual needs, from a one off assessment to a full service 12 week programme that includes a the Food for Life diet plan, a weekly supply of metabolic supplements that help to rebalance any underlying problems; a session with a recommended personal trainer, plus stress relieving techniques. And together with weekly support from the nutritional therapist can enable the patient to achieve their health or weight loss goals.
