SERVICES

Welcome to Gerald Peck Bioenergetic Therapy East Sussex

I am a fully qualified Bioenergetic Therapist located in Brighton, East Sussex. Typically I see my clients from the Sussex area, including Crawley and Lewes.

Areas Of Speciality

  • Depression

  • Relationship problems

  • People recovering from addictions who want help with the underlying personality problems

  • Shock (e.g. from accidents, sudden bereavement, violence, sexual abuse, birth difficulties)

  • Body tension related to emotional stress

What To Expect

As well as talking therapy techniques, bioenergetic therapy uses various forms of bodywork to release physical stress and locked in emotions. These may be related to other physical therapies like osteopathy and massage, but there are techniques which are specific to bioenergetics . The advantage of this is that it is by combining a physical approach with a talking therapy it is often possible to help reach blocked emotions which cannot be reached by other methods and which indeed may be considered untreatable by other methods.

The length of time taken by the therapy varies considerably, depending on the nature of the problem. Someone who has had a secure and loving upbringing, but who has nevertheless experienced severe trauma , may recover fairly quickly, as stress and fear comes out of the system. For others it can be a longer journey.

People are often surprised what comes out, both physically and emotionally, but usually recognize they are being helped within a few sessions.

About Therapies

Bioenergetics has its origins in Freudian psychoanalysis, and was developed in the United States by Alexander Lowen, who has written many books on the subject. The body work model fits well with other theoretical approaches, about which I have written in the official bioenergetic journal. In addition to being a qualified bioenergetic therapist , one of very few in this country, I have co-led groups in Germany where we also used different family and groupwork techniques.
