SERVICES

Welcome to Fulwell Chiropractic Clinic

We have been open since 2001 providing chiropractic care to the people of Sunderland and surrounding areas.

New patients are always welcome in the clinic.

We are recognised by all major insurances i.e. AXA PPP, BUPA, HAS, Norwich Union ,Standard Life etc. Please check with your provider on how to obtain chiropractic care.

You may also be able to get help for the cost of treatment from your employer if you have a scheme at work .

Our aim is to help our patients achieve an optimum state of health and enjoyment of life through chiropractic care and advice.

Your first visit

Consultation

When you arrive you will be met by one of our friendly front desk staff and shown round the clinic to help you feel comfortable.

We will then ask you to fill in some necessary forms including your medical history and what it was that prompted you to seek chiropractic care.

After completing this paper work there is a short video to watch which will help you understand what we do. You will then be shown to the examination room and meet the chiropractor.

During the consultation with the chiropractor your health/medical history will be reviewed and we will ask about your present condition and your lifestyle.

Please feel free to ask any questions you have at any point during your time at the clinic with us.

Once the health/medical history etc is complete we will then be able to examine you.

You must sign a consent form at this point giving us permission to examine and treat you.

Examination

You will be asked to undress to your underwear (we provide gowns for you to wear, you may bring a pair of shorts aswell if you would like). This is to help us assess you spine thoroughly. You are welcome to bring a friend with you if you feel this would make you more comfortable.

The chiropractor will examine you to ascertain what is causing your current condition. This will include various orthopaedic, neurological and range of movement tests. Signs of movement restriction (subluxation) are also checked at this time.

If necessary X-ray or MRI scan will be recommended and you may be referred to your GP for further evaluation.

We will explain what we found during your examination. We will recommend a course of chiropractic treatment if we think this will be helpful for you. We will also give you advice about what else you can do at home to help yourself.

If we don’t think chiropractic will help you we may be able to suggest an alternative practitioner for examination and treatment.

Chiropractic Treatment

Our treatment in the clinic is the chiropractic adjustment. Our primary technique of choice is Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique ( www.activator.com ) Like other chiropractic techniques it is safe, gentle, effective and comfortable. It is tolerated well by most people. Activator technique is probably the most widely used low force chiropractic technique in the world. Activator Methods celebrated its 40th birthday in 2007 and is designed to detect subluxation using a protocol of neurological tests using the patient’s leg length as a measure of spinal dysfunction.

Your First Adjustment

You will be asked to mount the adjustment table (Hi-Lo) which lowers you from vertical (76 degrees) to horizontal. Then you will be asked to perform a series of movements which help the chiropractor to check for signs of subluxation. If subluxation is found an adjustment is made to the problem area.

We also use procedures to minimise muscle spasm and undertake soft tissue (muscles etc) treatment methods, for example trigger point therapy and stretching techniques when deemed appropriate.

We will also recommend home care measures to aid in your recovery.

When you are feeling easier, exercises may be given.

We may also suggest we refer you to a Pilate’s class or specialised health coach for continued work to help stabilise your spine.
