My techniques

My extensive experience of over 25 years and continued study has enabled me to develop a unique treatment as a Medical Practitioner in the Muscular Skeletal field. This specialised technique, diagnosis and treatment, can be applied to the whole of the musculoskeletal system and restores normal function.
The technique that I specialise in is called STRAIN & COUNTERSTRAIN therapy which is based on Tender points and Acupuncture meridians and which involves no forceful movement, thus returning the muscles and joints to there normal position. Along with the normally accepted orthopaedic approach, this technique enables many more chronic conditions to be treated. It simply attempts to reverse the strain caused by the original injury, allowing the joints to relax, thus relieving the pain, correcting the problem and beginning the healing process more quickly. This technique does not involve cracking of the joints or any forceful movements. As I use clothes as a medium to feel for tender points, you don’t even have to undress!

Summary of Counterstrain Treatment Method
  1. Find the tender point.
  2. Establish baseline tenderness assessment.
  3. Reduce the tenderness by placing the patient in a position of maximal comfort.
  4. Hold the position of maximal patient comfort for 90 seconds.
  5. Slowly return the patient to a neutral position.
  6. Re-test the tender point.

As an osteopath I can treat you for many more problems than you may be aware of.
I treat people of all ages from babies and children, pregnant women, young and middle aged people and the elderly.
Treatment can be given for both sudden injury problems & chronic conditions, such as arthritis and restless leg syndrome, spinal troubles and migraines to name just a few.

I can also treat people with sports or repetitive strain injuries. The quicker a problem is treated, the quicker the healing process can begin.

Typical conditions treated include:

  • Headaches
  • Facial pain
  • Whiplash injuries
  • Neck pain
  • “Frozen” or stiff shoulders
  • “Tennis” or “Golfers elbow”
  • Wrist, and hand pain
  • Back pain / Sciatica
  • Disc problems
  • Sports injuries
  • Arthritic pain and stiffness in joints
  • Foot and ankle problems
  • Calf and shin problems
  • Restless Leg Syndrome
  • Hip, thigh and knee problems
  • Pelvic pain
  • Aches and pains in pregnancy

And much more

Sports Injuries

The quicker you can treat an injury, as long as there is no fracture, or the ligaments are not completely ruptured, the more quickly the healing process can be initiated.

I have been lucky enough to be in a situation where access to acute trauma was present, and that the people who were injured needed to be treated and restored to health as soon as possible. I was one of a number of doctors on call with the game show called “Gladiators”. Most of the injuries were minor in that they were strains and sprains. However, when you are recording two shows a day it is imperative that the gladiators are kept as fit and injury free as possible. I was in my apprentice years then, but I still had the nickname of “Witchdoctor” given to me by the gladiators, because they came in injured and in pain, and went out feeling better and in no pain.

This with only one session of Strain Counterstrain! I was truly amazed because I had been taught that RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) was the most appropriate therapy for minor injuries, but as I mentioned, with two shows a day this was not a place for doing nothing. Since then I have seen injuries that when treated early and effectively, do not adhere to the inflammatory pattern that you would expect, and that the recovery of normal function is much quicker. I think this premise is true for all injuries, but only time and research by people who are experienced in this type of trauma, will show what I believe to be true. The more quickly you can treat your patient after they have injured themselves, the quicker they will recover their health and the less pain they will suffer.

As well as working with the ‘Gladiators’, I have also been Doctor to England Rugby Union Football Under 16’s & 18’s, and I have been Team Doctor at Worthing Rugby Football Club since1998 up to this day.

Testimonials

"Dr. Peters
Hi! Just a note to say thanks. I walked up hill and rocky path, no pain!
Thanks

Dear Dr. Peters
I hope you are well. Thank you very much for the work you did on my back and hip. It was greatly appreciated
Take care

Dear Dr. Peters
I’m delighted to report that my vile thumb is 99% cured. Very, very occasionally it locks (usually ) when I wake) so I just shake my hand and it goes
Kind regards

Dr Peters
B. D. Called in today – 01/02/08 – to show you how well she is walking now.
She said that she was on crutches for 17 months, but with your help, she is now back to normal & walking perfectly

Dear Dr. Peters
Just to let you know that you have a very satisfied patient, who is about to board a plane for a holiday in Egypt, with no back pain at all. This couldn’t have happened without your help.
Will be careful, but wanted to say thank you

Dear Doctor Peters
I am writing to you to say a big thank you for curing my restless leg syndrome.
As you know from your records I came to you some years ago with this problem. I had been to my GP with this complaint and he gave me medication for Parkinsons disease, which I was not at all keen to take, as I don't have Parkinsons-He recommended you to me as he felt you could help with this problem, which you have and I am very greatfiil. It is such an uncomfortable complaint
You showed me how to lunge to help me should it reoccur, I do this exercise from time to time when needed and it helps immensely-Also any other pains or strains that cause me problems I have no hesitation but to come to you I have great faith in your technique at solving the problem areas.
If only the NHS would recognise your technique and help with funding so many more people could be treated. It would save a lot of unnecessary taking of drugs, which in some cases cause more problems due to side effects.Carry on your good works.
Yours sincerely,"

RLS SUFFERER
