Welcome to Yoga in Sidcup, Footscray and Hextable

There are many different schools of yoga but in all it’s forms, yoga is essentially a personal practice.

Hatha yoga emphasizes the physical aspect of the practice and has the potential to bring many benefits including a stronger more flexible body, less tension and better posture. As well as the physical benefits, Yoga encourages us to live more consciously with greater awareness and as such can bring benefits to all aspects of daily life.

Yoga is not a religion but some practitioners find that practicing yoga enhances and supports their own religious or spiritual beliefs.

Developed within the culture and traditions of pan India over the last 3000 years, western scientists are now finding that many of the yoga teachings have a scientific basis.

I provide all yoga equipment, including mats but please bring a blanket for relaxation.

Please wear comfortable clothing that is suitable for exercise and allows for full range of movement. We practice barefoot.

It is not advisable to eat a full meal for at least 3 hours before a yoga class. Traditionally yoga is practised on an empty stomach, however I find that most students prefer to eat a light snack 2-3 hours before practising to ensure their energy level is stable.

I teach alignment based Hatha yoga which is safe and accessible for all ages and abilities. You do not need to be flexible to start!

Each week I teach a different sequence of poses (asana) with the intention that the students experience a full range of yoga postures: standing poses, seated and floor poses, twists and abdominal toners, forward bends and backbends. We begin the class with a breathing exercise (pranayama) and breath awareness is carried throughout the class. The class always ends with a lying relaxation known as Savasana.

One-to-one and small group yoga sessions

I have been very lucky to have been able to take advantage of one-to-one tuition with my teachers to assist my own yoga practice and believe it's a great way to learn and develop as a yoga practitioner.

My own one-to-one students have really appreciated a space to learn in a very personal way and the improvements I see in their practice develop very quickly.

One-to-one classes offer the benefits of:
  • individual attention, beneficial for recovery from illness, injury, periods of stress for eg
  • learning techniques to reduce stress and relax that are personal to you
  • a convenient time that is arranged with you
  • assistance with specific postures that you may be interested in or have questions about
  • deepening your own personal yoga practice
One-to-ones are about you as an individual and the format and content will be developed to suit you. Depending on your needs and how many sessions we envisage having together I may ask you to fill out a questionnaire prior to our first session so that we can get the most out of our time together.

Sessions can be held at your home or office, at my home in Sidcup or at another location for eg we could hire a hub working room. Sessions for small groups can also be arranged.

About Me

I began going to regular yoga classes in 2004, when I worked at ABN AMRO in the City of London.

The classes were a welcome relief from desk based work and helped free my body and mind from the restrictions of office life. I was soon hooked and completed the British Wheel of Yoga Foundation course in May 2008 under the supervision of my teacher Mohini Chatlani.

At the end of 2008 I took voluntary redundancy from ABN AMRO with the intention of broadening my horizons and as part of this I was able to spend more time practicing and studying yoga. Encouraged by my teachers I enrolled on the Triyoga Teacher Training course in November 2009.

I complete the formal 276-hour British Wheel of Yoga and Yoga Alliance accredited yoga teacher training at triyoga in May 2011, graduating with distinction. My course tutors for Asana, Pranayama and teaching were Anna Ashby and Joey Miles and the course included the study of anatomy and physiology with Chris Swain and yoga philosophy, Sanskrit and meditation with Carlos Pomeda.

As part of the course I have been teaching individuals and small groups since the beginning of 2010 and in May 2011 was very excited to start teaching formal classes in Sidcup.

I am now teaching weekly yoga classes in Sidcup and Hextable and am also helping to train new yoga teachers as an Assistant Teacher on the triyoga Teacher Training 2011 in-take.

I love sharing yoga with others and plan my classes around the physical practice of yoga (asana and pranayama), to encourage the body to open and release tension, increasing strength and flexibility as well as the philosophy of yoga.
