Although Complementary therapies are relatively new to Western culture they have been accepted, developed and in use for thousands of years in many other cultures. In Western medicine it usually refers to a form of therapy that does not fall within the realm of conventional therapy as practised bay most doctors and Hospitals.

It is therefore, as the name suggests, a form of therapy that complements conventional treatments. Although Britain came late to complementary therapies. It is estimated by practitioners that demand for these therapies has increased by up to 30% in the last ten years. It is currently estimated that 3 in 10 local health authorities in Britain now offer some form of Complementary therapy to patients as many as one third of people in the United Kingdom have tried at least one form of Complementary therapy.

ABOUT MAURIZIO

Maurizio experienced a spiritual awakening about 20 years ago, after his older brother passed away. A few years later he found himself studying and practising meditation and energy healing, training with eastern philosophies mainly oriental but western as well. He then decided to share his knowledge teaching relaxation/meditation workshops along with Reiki courses.

During these years Maurizio also trained in massage therapies, and worked for the Complementary Health and Trust (CHT), an organisation that provided training and support for therapists who worked with those affected by HIV and other auto-immune related conditions. Maurizio later worked at Charing Cross Hospital and Victoria Clinic where he gained further knowledge and experience of working alongside medical doctors specialising in HIV.

He also had a six year stint at St Joseph’s hospice where he provided Aromatherapy massage to terminal patients and for people with Neurological Disease. In addition he also facilitated relaxation workshops for the Heart Failure Well Being Clinic, Breast Cancer groups and others medical conditions groups. Not to mention River House Trust, another charity organisation supporting people affected by HIV.

In addition to the training and experience mentioned above, Maurizio is also a spiritual coach and dream interpreter. He is currently studying shamanism animal totem and Tarot cards.

AROMATHERAPY

The use of Aromatherapy can be traced as far back as 3,000 BC. However the term aroma-therapy was coined by French chemist Rene’ Maurice Gatefosse’ (1937), whose research helped revive modern interest in the healing properties of essential oils. When you combine the soothing aroma of body oils with a massage you are left with a therapy that is second to none! Today we regard Aromatherapy as a treatment which complements orthodox medicine. Considered a holistic treatment, it targets the Mind, Body and Soul. Aromatherapy works to improve both the emotional and physical well-being of an individual, prompting the body’s immune system into action. It can relieve stress and pain in addition to lessening nervous tension, and by promoting a general sense of well-being can fight anxiety and mild depression as well.

HOLISTIC MASSAGE

So what's the difference between standard massage treatment and Holistic massage? You receive an individual treatment specifically tailored to you or a fixed massage routine that focuses on the physical body. A holistic approach treats the body as a whole and as practitioner I take into account your emotional and spiritual well-being as well as the physical aspect. Holistic massage is a nurturing process of touch and response. Treatments are adapted to each client’s needs, physical characteristics and personality.

DEEP TISSUE HOLISTIC MASSAGE

This type of massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. Deep tissue massage is recommended for people who have consistent pain, those who undertake in heavy physical activity or individuals recovering from physical injury. It can help address: chronic pain, repetitive strain injuries, postural problems, inflammatory conditions such as tendinitis and arthritis, fibromyalgia and back pain.

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE

Indian head massage has been practised in India for over a thousand years. The treatment targets the upper back and shoulders, neck, head, face and ears. Patients remain clothed, seated in a chair (traditionally) or laying on a couch or floor mat. Indian Head Massage can be performed virtually anywhere. This beautiful therapy also helps increase joint mobility and flexibility in the neck and shoulders, improves blood circulation and lymphatic flow, and frees knots of muscular tension. It can also help relieve headaches, reduce anxiety and may improve sleeping patterns.

SEATED ACUPRESSURE MASSAGE

Modern-day Seated Acupressure, also known as on-site or chair massage is a hybrid of the ancient Oriental massage arts of Anma and Shiatsu. It is a meridian based therapy, in which thumbs, fingers, elbows and knuckles are used over many acupressure points on the 12 major meridians accessible on the back, arms, hands, neck, head and legs. treatments range between 20-25 minutes, making Seated Acupressure ideal for busy workplace environments. Employees benefit from this quick, dynamic de-stressing therapy, leaving them relaxed but energised. The clever, ergonomic design of an easily portable chair completely supports the client’s body in total comfort. The treatment is performed without removal of clothing or use of oils.

ENERGY HEALING

Energy healing has taken place for thousands of years. Many different civilizations and cultures practiced healing in one form or another. Many people have natural healing ability. Today, healing practitioners work in different places such as healing centres, hospitals, people’s homes and so on.Energy healing is an energy therapy which complements conventional medicine by treating the whole person: body, mind and spirit. This beautiful energy therapy can be given with the recipient present or absent (distance healing) seated or laid in a comfortable position. Energy healing helps with pain, both physical and emotional; it is deeply relaxing and helps restore balance and harmony to the whole person. These are just some of the benefits of this healing therapy.

THE HEALING OF ANIMALS

Healing is not restricted to one life form. The same healing that helps to ease the pain in humans can also ease the pain of an animal. Healing comes from the same source of life.

REIKI

Traditional usui system Reiki is a simple and natural healing energy. Gentle yet powerful it helps restore balance and harmony to the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. Reiki has no formal connections with religion. Reiki can be learnt by anyone whom is willing to become a channel for this form of healing, including children. Learning Reiki can be useful for people working in medical, psychological or caring professions to enhance the quality of their healing care. Reiki works in a holistic way, can complement other therapies and is not intrusive.
