ACUPUNCTURE & BENEFITS OF ACU-THERAPY
Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing developed over thousands of years as part of the Traditional medicine of China, Japan and other Eastern Countries. It restores and maintains health by stimulating acupuncture points just beneath the body surface. These points are in very specific locations and lie on channels of energy called meridians. Traditionally acupuncture works by the insertion of needles or by the burning of a herb called moxa to stimulate the points. However, other ways such as acupressure, acutouch, using the energy of crystals or a small electric current , can be used as stimulation – I have called these methods Acu-Therapy. This uses the system of acupuncture to restore the balance of chi energy in the meridians without the use of needles.
I use kinesiology to help me determine the best choice of stimulation to the acupoints during each session. Every person is different thus every treatment session is individual and no two patients are treated the same.
In this system of medicine, all illness is considered to be the result of an imbalance of energy, thus treatment can benefit almost any ill person as long as the degenerative process in the tissues of the body is not too extensive.
Many people have energy balancing as a preventative treatment or because they feel unwell in themselves but are not ‘ill’ in the Western sense.
ALLERGY THERAPY & KINESIOLOGY
I test for allergies using the non- invasive technique of Applied Kinesiology. This is the use of muscle testing and is now widely accepted as a valid method of diagnosing. It is completely safe to use, results are immediate. The person being tested is fully involved in the process from the start, it is painless and can be used for adults and children.
There are other forms of allergy therapy available but few offer treatment other than total avoidance of the allergen. This is not always advisable for the following reasons;
- It is not always possible if the allergen is hidden in foods or is an airborne substance such as car fumes or house dust.
- Many people do not have sufficient knowledge about nutrition to be able to exclude, for example, wheat and all cows milk from the diet of a child and replace them with foods that will supply adequate vitamins and mineral. As one Doctor so rightly put it, ‘I have never seen so many cases of malnutrition as a result of dieting to relieve an allergy problem’.
Because of the disadvantages of total avoidance as mentioned above, I use desensitisation whenever possible, which usually enables the patient to have a small intake of the allergen/s with no ill effect. I either use remedies prepared by homeopathic pharmaceutical techniques, which are taken by mouth and that can be used safely by adults and children. These are totally unrelated to desensitising injections given in hospital clinics.Alternatively acupoints within the meridian system are used to stimulate the body’s own defences. For more information about the homeopathic remedies visit the British Institute of Allergy and Environmental Therapy, at www.allergy.org.uk
NUTRITIONAL ADVICE is given involving;
- discussion regarding foods to replace those
which are allergens
- highlighting areas where food groups or
vitamins and minerals may be inadequate
- giving advise on supplements which would be
- discussion of appropriate food energetics in
terms of yin/yang
- giving advice on choice of diets.

EMOTIONAL FREEDOM THERAPY
is another treatment I sometimes use. It is a method of treatment becoming more widely recognised and highlighted in the media.
Fundamentally it uses tapping on acupuncture points to help clear emotional issues. The Classical Five Element System of Acupuncture has a strong focus on emotions and their connection to our Chi energy. Therefore this is a very useful tool that can be used for patients to help themselves between treatments or whenever needed.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT FIRST SESSION
The first consultation/treatment takes approximately 1hr.30mins. During this time the nature of disharmony in the patient’s body/mind, is determined by careful questioning, about such things as medical history, sleep patterns, diet, digestion, lifestyle and emotional feelings. The tongue and pulses may be examined for diagnostic purposes.
Kinesiology is introduced, followed by checking for allergies and the first treatment.
Any medication from the patient’s GP or any supplements already being taken should be brought to this session. If a patient wishes to make changes to their medication following treatment, this should be discussed with the prescribing GP or Specialist.
FUTURE SESSIONS take approx. 30mins. During which time allergies or energy imbalances are corrected.
The number of treatments required varies from person to person. Generally the sessions become spread out e.g. from every 2week to every 4weeks to once every 6weeks and so on.
Conditions should be greatly improved after 6 treatment sessions or less.
Thereafter seasonal visits are recommended to prevent future imbalance and maintain optimal health and well being.
I work Tues – Fri. 10am -5pm. At times there may be a few weeks wait for a first appointment.
Consultation/first treatment £48
Follow up sessions. £40
I work from home and unfortunately I am restricted to the use of equipment that does not accommodate clients whose weight exceeds 20stone.
