Therapies

Reflexology

Reflexology is a natural therapy based on the ancient principle of energy zones running through the body; reflex points on the feet and hands correspond to these parts of the body. Working on these reflex points can release energy blockages and restore equilibrium to the whole body.

Reflexology is the technique of applying gentle pressure to reflex points on the feet or hands creating a state of deep relaxation and calm, whilst stimulating the body's own natural healing and helping to return to a state of balance and well-being.

A single Reflexology treatment is beneficial, however regular treatments will optimise good health and well-being, and can be used to help specific problems or as a preventative health care measure.

The benefits of Reflexology include:
  • Reduce Stress & Anxiety
  • Promote Relaxation
  • Improve Immune & Circulatory System
  • Aid Elimination of Toxins & Waste Products
  • Stimulate Nervous System & Body's Own Healing Process
  • Alleviate Stress Related Conditions
  • Improve Energy
  • Help Reduce Post-Operative Recovery
  • Relieve Pain

Maternity Reflexology

Maternity Reflexology is another branch of Reflexology for pre-conception, labour and post-natal period.

Maternity Reflexology can help to elevate or prevent discomfort arising during pregnancy and labour and to restore balance and well-being. Clients often require less pain relief and can benefit from a shortened duration of labour.

Maternity Reflexology can help to restore balance during this time of hormonal, emotional and physical change in the body.

Maternity Reflexology can help with a range of ailments:
  • Relieve Heartburn
  • Relieve Nausea & Vomiting
  • Improve General Relaxation
  • Improve Sleep
  • Labour Preparation
  • Relieve Backache
  • Increase Energy Levels
  • Relieve Constipation
  • Relieve Sciatica

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the use of aromatic oils to enhance well-being, relieve stress and promote good health. It awakens the senses through the aromas of the oils, healing the body and mind.

Aromatherapy is a natural holistic therapy, which combines the healing power of massage with the therapeutic properties of aromatic or essential oils to restore and balance your entire body system. The essential oils are extracted from plants, flowers, seeds, fruits, grasses and bark to retain their distinctive therapeutic properties and aromas.

As a healing tool, combining touch and smell, aromatherapy massage provides many benefits. The essential oils are specially selected and blended to individual needs to restore mind-body harmony and improve vitality.

Aromatherapy has proven to help stress, chronic tension, insomnia, tension migraine headaches, muscle pain, backaches, sinus pain and many other conditions.

The properties of the oils are varied. For example, Rose Otto, which has been favoured by women throughout the ages for its gentle action and fragrant aroma, balances hormones, lifts depression and promotes feelings of happiness.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage involves working on pressure points along the upper back, shoulder, neck, upper arms, scalp, face and ear. It is based on the traditional form of massage, which began in India. Indian Head Massage helps to reduce muscle tension in the upper body and involves the practitioner kneading, rubbing and squeezing the soft tissues to release stress.

The benefits of Indian Head Massage include:
  • Reduces mental fatigue
  • Improves circulation
  • Relaxes the scalp
  • Possible stimulation of hair growth (with regular treatments)
  • Reduces tension and stiffness in neck & shoulders
  • Boosts Immune system
  • Promotes total relaxation
  • Aids detoxification of the body
  • Improves concentration

Holistic Massage

Holistic Massage is truly a holistic therapy; it enhances and uplifts the physical, emotional and spiritual state contributing to an overall sense of well-being. Massage allows time for you to replenish resources of vital energy, which is essential in a modern world where stress is known to be the root cause of most serious physical conditions.

Stress can lower the natural defences of the body's immune system and its ability to fight disease. When you are constantly exposed to the effects of stress, depression, anxiety, and insomnia, sheer exhaustion can be the result.

Holistic Massage is valued for its 'feel good' factor. As the body releases tension, a weight is lifted, leaving you with a sense of lightness and happiness.

Having a massage by Joan Haig Holistic Services is both relaxing and refreshing. It is about taking time out to restore harmony and well-being helping you to have an improved prospective on life.

Dietary Advice

We all know and have the best intentions of eating a healthy diet, but with the constant pressure and fast pace of our increasingly busy lifestyles, we neglect to do so.

My aim as a therapist is to provide a holistic service in every sense of the word, including advice on diet & nutrition, to help my clients achieve optimum health benefits. I conduct a lifestyle questionnaire in the initial consultation and give the appropriate nutritional advice as part of aftercare service. For example, what type of foods to eat, how much, how to prepare and when to eat? This service is offered separately or as part of a package.
