SERVICES

Welcome to UK Chi Kung Schools

Because there is no formal process for qualifying as an instructor of Tai Chi, Andy Wright saw that there was a significant need to have a process of informal regulation.

From personal experience he saw all too often, unscrupulous people making all sorts of claims as to their “qualification level” with regards to martial arts Instruction (with the motivation mainly financial), and felt that he needed to take the lead and set up a Regulating Group to oversee standards.

Many people will say why bother? Andy Wright has spent the years since starting Karate (in 1985) improving himself by taking the training and qualifications he saw as important to further his skills, whilst others just make the claims without the underlying effort or knowledge. This undermines the value of the qualifications.

Being a true budoka, a follower of the Martial Way, he just could not pay Lip Service to the traditions and etiquette of the Martial Arts by being a fake and claiming he is something he is not. It would also be extremely discourteous to the many students he has taught over the years who all trust his knowledge.

Qi Gong

'Qi' or 'Chi' means energy. 'Gong' or 'Kung' means work.

Therefore, Qigong means the exercise of your internal energy. It is a 5,000-year-old Chinese healthcare modality that has both endured the test of time and is making a tremendous resurgence at the threshold of the 21st Century.

The benefits of Qigong are increasingly recognized for enhancing fitness in mind and body, developing vitality and helping in the cure of stress as well as degenerative and chronic diseases.

Literally millions practice Qigong in China and around the world each day to successfully treat diseases ranging from hypertension to cancer.

The 18 Stance (Shibashi) set is the one most frequently performed because it is simple to learn and easy to do. On average the eighteen moves will only take around 15 - 20 minutes to complete.

The first set is complimented by others, such as the Five Animals, 8 Brocades, etc.

Tai Chi (Shibashi)

Tai Chi Shibashi is a well known set of qigong exercises developed for use by all abilities and the eighteen moves lend themselves to adaptation for those with mobility or health problems.

They have a proven record of helping with improving health conditions. The Level 2 Qualification is designed for Students or those wishing to teach a Few sessions in a month, perhaps within their own non-profit group.

The Level 3 Qualification is for those who are perhaps health professionals already, or those wishing to move into teaching full time. Full support and back up is offered for setting up sessions.

Energy Healing (Zenchi)

Zenchi translated from the Japanese, means complete recovery healing and utilises the universal life-force energy and meridian pathways to aid healing.

Andy Wright uses his skills and learning within holistic therapies, having gained standard qualifications in a number of them, to enhance the client healing process.

Sessions last between 45 and 60 minutes and clients remain fully clothed. If it is felt appropriate, some Qigong exercises may also be taught to the client (to do at home).

Meditation (Zazen Meditation)

Zazen is at the heart of Zen Buddhist practice, although you will not need to become one to take part.

The aim of zazen is just sitting opening the hand of thought. This is done either through koans, Rinzai's primary method, or whole hearted sitting (shikantaza), the Soto sect's method. Once the mind is able to
not be hindered by its many layers, one will then be able to realize one's true Buddha nature.

In Zen Buddhism, zazen (Japanese: literally seated meditation) is a meditative discipline practitioners perform to calm the body and the mind and experience insight into the nature of existence and thereby gain enlightenment (satori).

About Andy Wright

Andy was taught shibashi while learning Shiatsu. After this, he took a diploma in chi kung with Stonebridge College and a Teachers Certificate with the TCCKF.

He had an interest in internal energy already because of his "reiki" and martial arts knowledge and Chi Kung was just an extension of that.

During the 24+ years of training in martial arts the development of "Reiki Jutsu" took shape, with core elements consisting of chi kung and zazen meditation.

He founded the UK Chi Kung Schools to further the standards and quality of Instructors by offering a non-biased approach to training and certification.
