What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy helps people gain a better understanding of themselves and their thoughts, feelings and actions. Understanding the patterns that have dominated you, often without you realising it, can bring the possibility of choice and of change. In a secure environment with the psychotherapist you can seek to discover what makes you what you are and what is on your mind.
People come to psychotherapy for all sorts of reasons. Some examples might be:- Broken or difficult relationships
- Loss and bereavement
- A sense of purposelessness
- Depression
- Blocked creativity
Is psychotherapy the right treatment for me?
The psychotherapist will meet with you to assess your needs and to decide with you whether psychoanalytic psychotherapy is the best option.
We offer an assessment session in which the therapist will ask you something about yourself, your problems and your background to find out whether this kind of pyschotherapy is likely to be suitable for you.
During the assessment session you will be able to experience what it is like to work with this therapist and whether you are able to feel safe enough to explore your thoughts.
After the assessment session you may wish to take a little time to consider whether you wish to go further. If you decide that this is the way forward for you, we will arrange for you to come regularly, for a minimum of one session a week. Sessions last for 50 minutes.
