Welcome to The Buxton Osteopathy Clinic

Phil Heler is registered as an osteopath with the General Osteopathic Council and has practised in Sheffield for several years at one of the region's biggest and oldest osteopathic practices. Having also practised in Buxton since 2006, and after moving to a Peak District village, he established the Buxton Osteopathy Clinic in December 2008.

Lower back pain is something that most people suffer from at some time or another, usually as a result of spinal disturbances such as postural strain, joint degeneration or disc injuries. While osteopaths are often regarded as specialists for 'bad backs', and this is certainly true, it's only part of the story. In actual fact, osteopaths are extensively trained and fully qualified to help with a wide range of musculoskeletal related conditions, from head to foot and in people of all ages - even babies. Osteopathy can also prove successful in treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME), using the increasingly recognised Perrin Technique.

The clinic offers osteopathy six days a week and we have three registered osteopaths (Phil Heler, Rebecca Burtt and Mel Wrigley). The clinic is also a multi-disciplinary clinic and we offer the following therapies;
  • Osteopathy (including cranio-sacral)
  • Acupuncture
  • Sports Massage
  • Homeopathy
  • Wellbeing Coaching
  • Reflexology
  • Counselling
  • Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)

REFLEXOLOGY

Alice Lee-Overton
MSMA, MAoR, Dip Clinical Reflexology

What is reflexology?

Reflexology is a Complementary Therapy that works on the feet or hands enabling the body to heal itself. Following illness, stress, injury or disease, it is in a state of "imbalance", and vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing the body from functioning effectively. Reflexology can be used to restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium and encourages the body to heal itself, helping to heal the whole person not just the prevailing symptoms.

A Reflexologist uses hands only to apply pressure to the feet and can detect tiny deposits and imbalances in the feet. By working on these points the Reflexologist can release blockages and restore the free flow of energy to the whole body. Tensions are eased, and circulation and elimination improved.

Whilst the art of reflexology dates back to Ancient Egypt, India and China, it wasn't until 1913 that Dr William Fitzgerald introduced this therapy to the West as 'zone therapy'. He noted that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone. In the 1930's Eunice Ingham further developed this zone theory into what is now known as reflexology.

How can Reflexology help me?

Reflexology can be used to help restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium. This gentle therapy encourages the body to work naturally to restore its own healthy balance. It has been shown to be effective for:
  • Stress-related conditions
  • Sleep disorders
  • Hormonal Imbalances
  • Back Pain
  • Arthritis
  • Digestive disorders
  • Migraine
  • Fertility
  • Emotional imbalances

Who can benefit from reflexology?

It is suitable for all ages and may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. After having completed a course of reflexology treatments for a specific condition, many people find it beneficial to maintain health and well-being. Whilst many people use reflexology as a way of relaxing the mind and body and counteracting stress, at the same time many doctors, consultants and other health care professionals recognise reflexology as a well established, respected and effective therapy.

With ever increasing levels of stress, it is important for people take more responsibility for their own health care needs. Reflexology helps us to cope on a physical mental and emotional level thereby encouraging us to heal and maintain in all area of our lives.

A treatment session usually lasts for about one hour. A course of treatment may be recommended depending on your body's needs.

COUNSELLING

Omar Sattaur
BSc. Dip. Couns. MBACP (Accred.)

There’s no telling what life’s going to throw at you: relationship problems, physical injury, anxiety, redundancy, work-place bullying, you name it. Counselling can help you manage and overcome your difficulties.
Having a good laugh, or a good cry, with a partner, friend or family member can be all we need to get back on track. But there are times when the problems, disappointments, losses and harshness of life seem overwhelming. And worse, they may seem like déjà vu; surely I’ve been here before? And that thought can itself drain confidence away.

Often it’s not only our mental health that suffers but our physical health too. As we become less active and confident, our sense of wellbeing begins to deteriorate.
Taking your wellbeing seriously means paying attention to the body as well as to the mind. My goal is to help you get your mind and body back into balance.

I can offer you a fresh eye, a trained ear, warmth and honesty. Come and find the right conditions to heal yourself.

I have helped clients to manage a host of problems including:
  • Stress
  • Relationship problems
  • Panic attacks
  • Anxiety
  • Sexual abuse
  • Depression
  • Anger
  • Low self-esteem
  • Eating disorders
  • Phobias
  • Post Traumatic Stress
  • Bereavement

Omar is trained in person-centred counselling and EMDR and was accredited in 2007. He employs a variety of approaches including expressive (creative) therapy, counselling in the outdoors and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) for post-traumatic stress.

EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUES (EFT) & INTUITIVE ENERGY HEALING

By Tania Louise

.........................................

Intuitive Energy Rebalancing

Tania draws upon her background as a Body Mirror System Healer, Reiki Master and Vortex Healer to provide a unique, intuitive holistic healing experience that helps to balance you emotionally, mentally and physically, restoring you to harmony and wellbeing.

While you relax fully clothed on a treatment couch Tania will intuitively tune in to your energy system to channel the healing energy most suited to your needs at the time. As the energy system is associated with certain parts of the consciousness and body it can help us to identify the messages our body is trying to give us when we become stressed, ill or out of balance emotionally or physically.

This soothing hands-on healing method is said to be the equivalent of having four hours of sleep... it doesn’t get much more relaxing than this!

.........................................

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)

This powerfully effective therapy combines two well established sciences so you can benefit from both at the same time; Mind Body Medicine and the principles of Acupressure using an energy point tapping technique. EFT gently realigns the body’s energy system and helps to address unresolved emotional issues as a likely cause of stress, illness and personal performance limits.

EFT has shown impressive results with a wide variety of issues including fears, phobias, pain, stress, anxiety, depression, grief, weight management, eating disorders, low self esteem, fertility, relationship problems, business and career goals, sports performance, public speaking, agoraphobia, anger management, smoking and other addictions, and often works quickly and effectively when nothing else does.

.........................................

Back & Neck Massage followed by Energy Healing

A de-stressing, de-knotting and deeply relaxing back, neck and shoulder massage will ease any tension, aches or pains. The remainder of the session will be soothing energy healing to provide the ultimate in relaxation.
