SERVICES

Welcome to Bowen In Devon

Bowen Technique has a wide range of applications. Personally I focus on a few specifics of which I have a proven track record over the past 8 years - FROZEN SHOULDER , LOWER BACK PAIN, MIGRAINE, WHIPLASH.

There are many therapies that can compete with other aspects of health, however it is my belief that Bowen Therapy is at the forefront when it comes to the above 4 mentioned conditions.

What is the Bowen Technique?

The Bowen technique is a soft tissue corrective therapy, named after its innovator Tom Bowen who was born in Geelong, Australia at the turn of the last century. The technique involves the use of fingers or thumbs on precise points of certain muscles, ligaments, tendons or fascia. The Bowen Technique consists of a series of gentle rolling connective tissue moves on skin (or through light clothing). A treatment session usually lasts from 30 minutes to an hour and frequently results in a deep sense of overall relaxation, allowing the body to recharge and balance itself.

The Bowen Technique can be extremely effective for musculo-skeletal problems such as back pain, sports injuries, Scoliosis, frozen shoulder, Sciatica and many other problems that one would normally associate with an osteopath or a chiropractor – in fact many people label The Bowen Therapy is the Holistic approach to Back Pain with the advantage the is a gentle and effective process with no need for high velocity moves, and there is no 'crunching'.

What can Bowen Treat?

Common conditions that are treated using the Bowen Technique include: Back pain, neck pain, sports injuries, migraines, frozen shoulder, Sciatica, RSI, Chronic Fatigue, respiratory problems, infant colic, sleep problems.

Latest research has also shown that Bowen Therapy can be very effective with pain management and muscle co-ordination for Multiple Sclerosis. There has also been an eight year study on the effects of the Bowen Technique upon children with Cerebral Palsy, Dyspraxia and other learning difficulties, the results of which are extremely encouraging and have led to the development of a particular style of the Bowen Technique known as “Fascia Bowen” by Howard Plummer who I have also had the pleasure of studying with.

The Bowen Technique is considered safe for any age group including young children and new born babies as well as the elderly and infirm.
