SERVICES

Welcome to Blackheath Pilates

Blackheath Pilates consists of 2 Body Control Pilates instructors offering a full range of classes (including antenatal Pilates and Yoga and classes in Greenwich Park) in and near to Blackheath Village and East Greenwich.

About Pilates

Pilates is a body conditioning method that targets deep postural muscles to encourage proper movement, alignment and muscle balance. Attention is paid to strengthening the deep stabilising muscles of the stomach and back to enable smooth and efficient movement of the limbs. Once a strong centre can be maintained, the exercises are advanced.

Body awareness is increased by bringing together mind and body - Pilates teaches you to be in control of your body, allowing you to handle stress more effectively and achieve relaxation more easily. This awareness will flow through into your everyday life, and you will find yourself thinking of posture and alignment when at work, walking and even waiting for a bus!

Pilates can benefit people of all ages and fitness levels. It is especially recommended for those who suffer from poor posture, back pain, sports injuries, repetitive strain injury, osteoporosis or osteoarthritis.

Antenatal Pilates & Yoga

Pregnancy is a special time in which your body has changing needs which are not accounted for in a general pilates class. This is why we run special antenatal Pilates classes for pregnant women in the second and third trimesters. Jennifer was the first instructor in the area to offer these classes and they have proved to be extremely successful, with women now returning for their 2nd pregnancies. These classes have fewer people then a general class and allow for closer attention to be paid to each client.

Antenatal Pilates classes will help the pregnant woman to move correctly without stressing her joints and, in emphasizing correct alignment and good posture, is perfect for helping to cope with the increased strain on the neck, shoulders and upper back. Strengthening exercises for the pelvic floor and deep abdominals help to support the extra weight in her tummy thus decreasing the strain taken by the lower back. Meanwhile gentle toning and relaxation exercises will keep to keep her fit, healthy and relaxed. Many of the exercises are conducted while seated on a large ball which helps to increase balance and core stability while providing release for the lower back.

Prices

Prices start at £10 per class for a general 1-hour matwork class, £11 for antenatal and £12 for a ball class (which has less people). Most classes run in courses and must be paid for in advance.

One-to-one sessions start at £45 for an hour for one person, off-peak. Special rates may be offered for booking multiple sessions.

Please contact the individual instructors for more details about pricing.
