Welcome to Achieve Balance through Shiatsu

What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a traditional hands-on Japanese healing therapy which redistributes and restores the flow of energy (Ki) through a system of meridians and acupressure points that run through the body. It calms the central nervous system, switching it from fight/flight mode to relaxation and enhances blood circulation. The Practitioner uses palm, thumb, elbow and knee pressure, incorporating rotations and stretches personalised to the individuals needs.

Shiatsu can help

  • Stress
  • Insomnia
  • Headaches/Migraines
  • Back, neck and shoulder pain
  • Digestive Disorders
  • Depression & Anxiety
  • Asthma & Allergies

If symptoms are ignored they can lead to more serious ailments as the body enters a state of dis-ease.

    Prevention

Regular Shiatsu encourages health awareness and can prevent long term illness. It can also be supportive in emotionally challenging times such as bereavement.

    A typical treatment

Lasts approximately 1 hour, however the first session will take longer as the Practitioner needs to take your full case history to gain a greater insight into your present state of being. It is given either on a futon at floor level OR seated on a specially designed chair, for those who would find this more comfortable. Please wear loose, warm, comfortable clothing, made of natural fibres if possible. Trousers and a long sleeved top are preferable.

What do you need to do before a treatment

Avoid eating at least an hour before the treatment. Please do not drink alcohol or take recreational drugs before or directly after treatment. If at all possible avoid strenous or stressful activities after your session.

    How often?

For chronic or acute conditions, the best results are achieved by having a course of treatments.
However, you can also come for occasional sessions which offer relaxation and a feeling of well-being. If you are unsure please book a free 20 minute consultation.
